Ouch... hope everyone was OK! What lake is that?

Yeah everyone is fine, just a little sore :)

Its Lake Monticello, a small lake in SE Arkansas. I boat either there or at Greers Ferry Lake in northern Arkansas... I'll be up there for Memorial Day and July 4th.

posted elsewhere, but it seemed like a good pic. A bit of turmoil coming back through the heads into Sydney Harbour last sunday, with just a slight swell...

Mate, its a good job you were in a Sundowner, not sure I would have wanted to be in that in an open boat!

Isn't that Jessica Watson's Ella's Pink Lady? Were you there to see her come into port after sailing around the world? Not bad for a 16 year old.

*Edited to say I just saw your other post so disregard my questions as it is Jessica.

not a bad effort at all, although we were talking earlier about this and wondering if technology does tend to diminish whats required to do this feat ?

You didnt have GPS, internet, sat phones, lap tops.
Navigating and the isolation and loneliness would be some of the big hurdles to overcome. The boat you would choose would generally cope with anything, but whether the sailor could is another matter. Blogging regularly, chatting online etc would make things a bit easier. I wonder if she communicated on a daily basis with family ?

and navigating with a laptop and gps would make life easy compared to charts and a sextant.

you still need to have "the right stuff" though !
