I put my bid in today for Genmar's entire suite of boats. A nice Vista Cruiser will be mine

The soft taco meal I offered them was good, but I think the burrito supreme will put me on top for a takeover

Bad News. I think certain Security Concerns should be taken now in order to protect from the Bankruptcy.

Up all Night:

So you're sitting around eating nachos these days? Other than a tail light lens I am complete on my "to dos" from SBNW. Last time I stopped in they were downsizing the offices. But Melinda was cheerful about being at the boat show. BTW, are you going? Maybe we can hook up at Jimmy's or Pyramid for a beer first or afterwards?

Cheers and dreamign for a long summer in 2010!

Optimus Prime, so you and (whoever up all night is) are attending the bankruptcy hearings/auction tomorrow ? Wow, I had no idea you two were really "insiders". I think a beer after the auction would be the most appropriate. Just my 2 cents.........

Cap'n

Actually, I was referring the the Seattle Boat Show. Bankruptcy hearings are a tad too far to travel to right now. But as all on this board, I am curious as to the results and how it might impact our "one and only" local dealer here in Seattle.

I was just funnin' with ya. I thought you may have had a beer and posted it in the wrong thread. Since you mention it, the PNW has sure taken a beating lately with some major boat dealers closing shop.
Staff Jennings Boating Center in Eugene Ore. is closing after 52 years in business. They were the world's 2nd largest Bayliner dealer. http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/si ... /story.csp

Lake Union Yacht Center recently closed their doors as well. http://www.threesheetsnw.com/blog/archives/6918

Hopefully your FW dealer can hang on through these tough times.

Tomorrow we may hear some news about the Genmar Bankruptcy. Hope it's good news.

For those that do not wish to weed through 7 pages of posts, here is where we stand with the Chapter 11 for Genmar Holdings LLC, as of 10:02 A.M. EST 1/7/10.

The auction of Genmar Holdings is scheduled to begin this morning in Minneapolis. It is expected to conclude this afternoon or Friday.

The number of bids submitted to the bankruptcy court are unknown. The only known bidder is Platinum Equity, based in Beverly Hills, California. It became the stalking horse bidder with a bid of US$55m for a portion of Genmar's assets. They include the Four Winns, Ranger, Stratos, Champion, Wellcraft, Larson and Glastron boat brands. Platinum Equity also bid for manufacturing facilities in Cadillac, Michigan; Flippin, Arkansas; and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Former Genmar chairman Irwin Jacobs earlier told IBI that he was putting together a bid for the facilities in Little Falls, Minnesota, and Pulaski, Wisconsin, as well as VEC technology. The brands built in Little Falls include Larson, Glastron and Seaswirl. Carver and Marquis are built in Pulaski. Jacobs said his bid would include other assets, but did not elaborate.

A hearing to approve the sale is scheduled for January 13, 2010. Genmar Holdings, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June 2009, will cease to exist as of Wednesday, January 20 as part of the proceedings.

So Platinum Equity bid on all the brands and Jacobs bid in facilities but no "brands", just the VEC technology? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Something I have never understood is why they had FW, Larson, and Glastron. Seems like creating overlap in brands that hurt them more than anything else.

Will be interesting to see how an aquisition firm handles a boat manufacturing business if it goes through.

Larson was one of the original Genmar brands. Glastron has been a Genmar brand for many years.

When OMC went bankrupt in 2000 Genmar picked up all the boat brands that OMC owned except Chris-Craft.

Why did they have Larson, Glastron and Four Winns?

Glastron = Entry level boats at entry level prices some with VEC (some with outboards)

Larson = Mid grade boats mostly all made with VEC

Four Winns = upper-mid grade boats with traditional construction

When times were good it made sense to have all three. Now it is not so good....which is why Jacob's isn't bidding on Four Winns.

I re-read the news brief and checked another source also. Apparantly the cotents of Jacob's bid are not public knowledge.

Click here and hit 'Play Video' for a story on the importance of Four Winns to the local Cadillac economy. Having never before seen the factory, it was cool seeing a little footage of it.

Sounds like whatever can be done is being done to keep them in place when the dust settles.
