It's not all that shocking about the wakeboard boats. People add in thousands of pounds of water bags to wakesurf. My buddy on my lake to get a good wave (he's a pro wake surfer) from his boat uses 1000lb ballast and at least 6-7 people on the boat. The gunwale is literally 1-2 inches from going under when making turns. A good wave from a passing by vessel of substantial size would easily sink it.

They're starting to develop better boats to handle the job to avoid all the weight, but not everyone can just run out and buy a 100k boat.

I really don't get that at all. How is that fun? These people must not be worried about drowning to take risks like that. When I am in LI Sound I do whatever it takes to keep water OUT of the boat at all costs......

Wakesurfing is REALLY fun but boats were never designed to do it. The norm is to weigh down wakeboarding boats well beyond their limits to get a decent wave by almost sinking the boat. Malibu found the answer to this problem, but just recently....and it's not backwards compatible or installable in older boats. Ya gotta fork over 80k to buy a new boat with it!

That was painful to look at! But a good reminder to keep my insurance paid up.
The boats sunk in the slip is my nightmare when I leave mine in the water during the week. Always a relief to see it still floating when I get there on Friday. :D

I'm lucky, the boat is moored behind my house, I can see it from the back of the house....
During/after storms I can easily see if it's floating right...
But, it's a good idea to reach down in the bilge every now and then to check the auto bilge switches....
