Hi All,

I'm heading out to the Colorado River next week (Parker) and wasn't 100% about my anchor set up. We leave the boat in the water overnight rather than beach it pr pull it back up on the trailer.

So, box anchor with it's metal bar attachment (about 18"), 15' of chain (D shackled on either end), then about 12' of rope (thimbled on both ends), one end connects to the chain, the other to a 1/2" quick link. From the quick link I hook up 100' of anchor line to tie onto the shore spike (rebar 3' long), I also hook up about 8' of line to the quick link for the mooring float (so we can find the line again).

Basically we motor up to the float and pull on the float line to get to the anchor line. Once we have the anchor line it's looped through the forward cleat and rear cleat. The shore spike has an adjustable hook to account for the river rising and falling overnight.

Am I close????

Yep, sounds like that will do it, if there is no current that may swing your boat like a pendulum into the shore. If you have to deal with a current, I would tie your mooring line to the stern, and drop anchor off the bow, that way your secured at 2 points and the current won't swing your boat. Are you shore camping? I'm jealous, I love doing that with the fam...

Yep, I'll have our toy hauler parked on the beach and the boat moored just off shore. :mrgreen:

There is a current there, about 2 knots at it's fastest, but it's not too bad right at camp. We typically drop anchor off the bow then run the line to shore at a slight angle, and tie it off to the shore spike. When we moor, we put the bow into the current, loop the line through a forward cleat, then loop another part of the line to the stern cleat (Slacking slightly between to the 2 cleats to allow for stretch). This way the we're pretty much pointed into the current rather than it hitting us broadside.

This is exactly what i do and it has worked perfect everytime.....
Its always a little scary when every other boat being pulled out of the water for the night but so far i have had success
