Anyone know where to get the short poles for the bimini top, so that you can tow with the bimini down?

^^ My last 3 hour tow was with the bimini up, and I lost one of the screws (worked loose due to bimini swaying), so I definitely won't mind spending on the shorter poles.

yeah see that nice metal back pole that connects it to the boat? That's my next big project. The bimini on the stingray is freaking nylon strap on the front AND the back. Using the bimini is like a monkey trying to hump a football.

What's that good website with bimini top parts?

Seems an unnecessary expense if you can just fold the bimini flat on the sunpad like we do. Also dealers transport the boats to the boat shows this same way. That is what we do, and cockpit cover and storage cover fit over top of the folded down bimini. I put a towel between the bimini and the vinyl just for added padding.

^^ There isn't a sunpad on the SL242, one of the things that I liked about it (no need to tan ), so the bimini would be resting on the back seat. I don't want to damage the vinyl in anyway, because that would be way costlier than spending on the poles. My new bimini top is too tall also. I'm 6'1 and it's almost a foot over my head! I'll be trimming it back with the hacksaw, I'll post pics when I get to that project. It also has rear straps and not solid support poles.. That's something I'll be adding so i can keep it UP but not extended like four winns boats.

Always put Loctite on biminipole screws. You won't lose another one. We just finished a 550 mile tow with the bimini folded on the sunpad. No damage to vinyl or anywhere on the bimini or boot. Also, even with short poles, you still put alot of stress on the gunwale attachment point, because the folded bimini will sway from side to side, and eventually cause gel-coat spider cracks. The short poles seem to work "OK" on 18 to 20 ft boats, but larger boats 24' and up have larger heavier bimini's . Dealer's even recommend not to tow with shorty poles, just lay the bimini down on the back seat, cover it with towels, foam noodles, tennis balls, whatever it takes to protect your vinyl. The bimini will not sway when folded down on the seat, it will when up, or with shortie poles. But if you insist, you can buy the 7/8" pole, cut it to length, and buy all the fittings you need at Overton's , Worst Marine or at the Mecca of bimini parts,Marine Part Depot. Total for two shortie's should be about $150.00

Tried to make the bimini poles and did not like them at all. The bimini still sways back and forth way too much. So I built the support pole instead and man what a difference both when open and closed. I could tow with it up now as it moves very little but mine still folds flat.

I'll need some too. Nope...only the hardware. I just went to a local steel company and bought a 12' piece of 7/8" SS for under $10.

(I think I know) Not sure what you mean Cap'n, my last long tow for the season will probably be 2 hours each way to Crystal Beach on lake Erie this coming weekend. I am going to try it your way with the bimini folded flat.
