Coming to my slip yesterday, I make the final turn and the rest is in the sticks. Suddenly Mother Nature sends a nasty head wind at me. No problem, I'll just overshoot my slip a little, rotate and back in as usual. I bring my Vista to a stop just past my slip and begin to rotate. Bear in mind gang, I'm stuffing a 278 into a slip designed for a 24 footer. OK, I'm rotated and my head wind DIES! When I'm lined up to back in, I'm anchor to anchor with the boat directly across from me. I'm sitting there for about 2 minutes waiting for Mother Nature to help me out a little,,,,nothing!

Needless to say, 5 minutes or so and looking like an idiot, I finally get her in. I opened the bar and cussed at Mother Nature for a while. Does she just hate me or is she out to get everyone?

Your thoughts please?

John

I have decided to never say it will be easy to dock it this time, even in my head. If I do something always happens. So I just plan for it to be a pain each time and am thankful when it goes better than planned. Of course my boat doesn't have quite as much windage as a cruiser but it's no 18 foot bowrider either.

I never take anything for granted in my whole month of boating. Every time it goes smooth, I pat myself and all of the Co-Captains on board on the back, and look forward to next time!

Kind of makes me sick when I see the guys come in with sailboats and the dock under full sail dropping there sails just as they rest against the dock. It's absolutely amazing.

+1 On that!!! I have to admit I am getting better with my 220 but I was allowed to push around a friends twin 350 36 footer and while everything out in the ocean was fine for some reason the marina seemed much smaller, the channels coming in were tiny also, when it was time to park that sucker I will not lie I was terrified! You have to face the stern and manipulate the engine transmissions and throttle of both engines while trying to bring it in, finally after a couples of tries I gave up and my friend pulled forward and had her docked in less than 3 minutes. I love watching the guys that come in and make it look like clockwork! If you see me watching it's because I wish I could do it like you big cruiser guys

S#!t happens.

Two weeks ago I backed out of the slip when this 20mph wind comes out of nowhere and starts pushing me sideways down the fairway. Took me three or four attempts before I could get the bow pointed into the wind and I ended up about five slips down from my starting point. Thought I was going to have to put the bow up against a piling and power it around as a last resort before the wind pushed me all the way to the end. I was very proud of the fact that I didn't hit any other boats or the dock.

My first summer with this boat and I've docked it like a pro almost everytime. Except, of course, the one day I had a friend of mine on board who has his captains license (and is very expierienced piloting 40-50' boats). For some reason I had the hardest time leaving and returning to the dock that day. Felt (and looked) like a complete novice

Well I am a Novice, and get a little nervous every time. Couple of scrathes here and there from being that novice, but have now learned....LOWER THE DARN BIMINI when it is windy.......that thing makes the boat turn into a dang kite!
