This question is dumb but here goes. I have a 2009 SL242 with the captains call option. The guy that pulls the boat out of dry dock and pulls it around to my dock turns the rediculous thing on every time and leaves it on when he gets out. I know it's coming but every time I start it when I first get there, I jump five feet in the air. My question is, can I simply unplug it at the switch or will I run the risk of it shorting out if the wires touch?

I've asked him to not turn it on but he forgets(I guess). It sounds cool but honestly is the most rediculous thing on the boat and it's loud even with it off. I don't really want to piss the guy off as he goes above and beyond putting the boat up and watching after it.

Dumb, I know....

Be careful what you do, you don't want anything crazy wired as you might sell the boat one day and don't want to explain something poorly engineered on an expensive boat.

Don't be passive aggressive. You're paying them. Have a nice talk with the management in a not so nice tone of voice just as loud as the exhaust.

Honestly, I would be pissed that he is messing with things on my boat. There is no reason to turn on things that do not need to be on to move the boat. If it were me, I would tell him to not mess with it again.

I am sure you could easily disable it by pulling the fuse.

Thanks, both good points.

I ALWAYS make sure the CC is open before I turn the key.... I couldn't imagine it any other way. The throat clearing start followed by the lobing idle just makes me proud.

If I had $1800 laying around the side exit system would be on my boat by Sunday

Many, many years ago I had a 1969 Ford Escort Twincam; basically a car weighing around 800kg or so with a Lotus Cortina engine ( should never have sold it but I moved abroad, but that's a different story !). The rear exhaust silencer ("muffler") failed, I put on a straight pipe instead of the silencer. Sounded wonderful on short journeys , but on any long journey it was awful ! A bit like any straight through exhaust system I imagine.

Not really, you can't hear it all that much from INSIDE the boat, as they are pointed away. I do have them OFF when wakeboarding as it makes the rider a little nervous when the PP throttles up and it carries into the video recorder, and makes the audio just crap (it is on for tubing when I want to scare a newby!).
