Does anyone know where or how to figure out what the alarm beeps mean. Last weekend ran the boat about 30 miles one way to a resort all temps and pressures normal. When going through no wake zone at idle speed about every 2 minutes there would be two beeps from the dash.

Are you sure it is from the dash? The only alarm we have on our 278 that gives 2 beeps is the CO monitor down below and it is clearly audible from the helm.

Get SmartTachs

On a serious note, I thought I saw a guide somewhere that showed what the beeps mean.

IAC valve is going bad. Same thing mine did just before it started stalling at idle.

Good idea but we do not have IAC on our DTS equipped engines.

I had, until recently, the occasional "two beeps" from the engine alarm system. It seemed to indicate that the reservoir for the gear oil needed topping up. This proved to be a false lead. I eventually found the culprit to be the water pressure sensor. Apparently on early Mercruiser models it was found near the raw water pump. On my 2006 model it is screwed in to the housing of the power steering cooler at the back of the engine and it is readily accessible for cleaning or replacement. The mechanic who sold me a new part said they replace a lot of these items.

Try this: it's not too specific but it is a start.

Unfortunately it looks like you will need a code reader to determine the real cause.
