I seem to be the only one in the general vicinity of my slip that has such a horrendous problem with spiders. It is covered and the marina does spray, but for some reason all of the spiders have decided to target my boat; at least my neighbors say they don't have problems!

After one week I have webs all over, little "dots" to scrub off and I've even had them fall into my hair unknowingly as they travel with us on our weekend adventures.

Is there any way I can control these little guys?

That's basically what I'm doing. When we anchor I swim around the boat and try to clean it up. Then, back at the slip I take care of the taller spots I can't reach from the water.

If could just slow down their web making. It looks like the boat hasn't been used for months after only a week; webs etc.!!

They are a pest. I got tired of the black spots too and the stains on the vinyl. Fellow boater told me about "Home Defense". I bought mine at the local Home Depot. Comes in a gallon bottle with an attached pistol grip sprayer. Spray the first few feet of your lines where they attach to the dock and your fenders. The problem is eliminated unless you get heavy rain between applications. If you want some real fun, spray the between the dock boards and watch them fall dead in the water. Seriously though, it seems to work well and doesn't stain the boat, lines or fenders.

Please be carefull spraying pesticides aound your boat!

Most of the active ingredients are pyrethroids, which are highly toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.

Here is website on Bifenthrin which is the AI for Ortho Home Defense!
