Just like my old H180.... Sand shifted, ran through a shallow spot around 3500rpms... picked up sand and guess what? Time for new impeller!!! Now over heats past 3k rpms. Sand grinds em down. Luckily I have a spare but is there a way to do anything about picking up sand and grinding down an impeller or is it pretty much a fact of life I gotta live with. I had to replace one on my H180 3.0 every 6 months. Sucks. Maybe switch it to thru-hull pickup on the bottom of the boat? |

Can you not fit a strainer ? They are almost always fitted to diesel marine engines, even when they are connected to outdrives ( I think the VP D3 used/ uses the SX/ SXA). Presumably their omission on petrol engines is just a cost cutting exercise. |

Turns out it wasn't the impeller at all, it was the fuel/water separator. Well, if that's what you want to call it. It was really just a water tank. Poured it out in a bowl and it was full to the brim with water. That would explain why it was running a little rough. Purrs like a kitten now at 175f @ 4900rpms. I went ahead and replaced the impeller while I was at it, it was brand new. I'll keep it as a spare onboard. Is there a drain-able replacement for fuel/water separator Sierra 18-7989? |

Yeah she's from Ho Chi Minh. Fun girl, she's down to try anything at least once. Doesn't mean I can't look or make friends ![]() |
