It seems Four Winns started the trend in these upper/mid level mainstream boats.

But they still need to get a little bigger boat to really compete with these new offering.

Maybe the next boat to be reworked is the H200 with an OB option?

Never been a fan of outboards, because we use the swin platform so much, but man I love the room inside for a 19' boat. That Crownline is sweet.

Glastron has some new 20 foot and under outboards as well, they went to a more retro style and are a little different. They even have a closed bow 20 footer that looks pretty good to me, not very practical but I like the old time looks with modern reliability.

I like the room but do they plan on hanging the big boy on back? I know the overall weight of the OB is less, but more of that weight is hanging so far back....with the bowriders being heavier than bay boats to begin with does that make them squat longer during takeoffs. Also what is the HP comparison between the ob and io? In other words if I have a 300 HP IO what would I need to get in OB for comparable performance?

Trend of back of OB for small boat is impact of IO engines with Cat Converter … These new engine with Catalytic Converters are un-proportionaly expensive for small boats and made all sport boat manufacture to think alternatives… Cost difference impact of Cat engine for Mid and larger size IO boat are not too much a deal so I do not think we will see OB on larger than 20’ sports boat…. But again who knows?

It's nice to see all these OBs and as long as they are priced right right they will sell. When owners see the clear advantages of OBs (no worry of gas fumes in the bilge, you can use the boat later and earlier in the season b/c they self drain, they are much easier to winterize, no bellows to leak) they will be unlikely to go back to stern drives. The Crownline is very nice but needs a150 on the stern.
