I know the cruisers have a galley with appliances for heating food...........but, what about us with runabouts?.......seems like every time we take the boat out it's cold sandwiches, chips, crackers, fruit veggies that kind of stuff.........

I am thinking......Hotdogs wrapped in foil set on top of the engine manifold.........anybody ever try it?.....what are your experiences?

Have used a small microwave on my 260. Why not just get a grill though?

Car manifolds can work but water cooled marine manifolds, assuming your cooling system is working correctly, should not exceed 140 or so...which is really not hot enough to cook meat safely....unless your boat overheats and then it'll be well done

Of course when you are taking about hot dogs, you don't REALLY need to cook them at all....more of an exercise in warming....

Thanks for the info guys.....exactly what I was looking for....I did not know a marine engine runs so cool.....maybe I should just bring along my trusty hand held propane torch and a couple of marshmallow sticks........

Buy a mountable propane grill that hangs out over the water like a Magna Grill. This is much better than putting stuff on the engine because: 1) it is another shinny stainless steel boat toy that looks great on the water and will impress your friends much more than tinfoil, 2) it makes cooking while at anchor a social event with guests offering advice and assistance, 3) the smoke will drift over to other boaters (many eating cold sandwiches) and they will start begging for cooked food and pulling hundred dollar bills out of wallets, 4) cooked food tastes fantastic on the water, and 5) it is another excuse to stay on the boat rather than go home.

When we had our open bow, we purchased a Max Burton Athena warmer. It is a 12 volt device and can warm hot dogs, nacho cheese, soup, etc. Just needed a big enough breaker on the lighter outlet. It was worth the $$$ to have something warm for the kids. You can find their products at most online RV supply houses.

When I worked for the railways, Some of the locomotive drivers did it, and really well. Probably best suited for reheating rather than cooking, but do-able. Same principle should apply for the manifold on the boats engine.
