Happened to see it while picking up my part. Repowered with a modern VP 8.1L Duo. It's one of the boat shop owner's boats. Cosmetically it's maybe 6 out of 10, no rips but the inside fabric could use a recover it's dated and used. Includes camper canvas, aluminum trailer, etc. No gen/ac. The guy was up for a trade for my boat.

Tempting.

Do it! I have a 1996 Vista 238...they are close enough for you to do all the mods and I can watch and see which ones I like and how to do it ;)

19K is a bit pricey for a 96 258 V, plus it's overpowered w/ the 8.1--what;s that? 320+ hp? too much.

420hp doubt it... unless its some hi-performance motor with a crapload of mods...... thought you couldnt get a boat bigger than 21 feet?

You missed the part where it's re-powered with a modern 8.1 DP. It's the boat shop owner's boat so it was probably pulled out of a salvage boat and installed in his. You know how boat shops work they get stuff all the time. The hull itself is decent like I said. Shows signs of use but it's 1996 can't get too picky. Still has a gloss on the gelcoat.

19k is a steal. Was talking about it yesterday, I'm close with a good friend of the owner apparently (didn't know), can get it for less.

Volvo Penta offered two versions from the factory- 8.1GXi which was rated at 420HP. The 8.1Gi was 375HP. The 8.1GXi was a very pricey upgrade over the Gi- there aren't too many around, as the biggest advantage with the big block is the killer torque. Overpowered? Never heard of it! :)

I wouldnt put that transom through that much stress, that boat wasnt designed for that kind of torque, max in 1996 was most likely around 300, so without reinforcing the tansom I wouldnt hammer down that kind of power

its a performance orientated shop. I'm pretty sure being the owners boat it was done right. Boatwrench.com

Now, that is a salt boat but the interior looks as good as my 2009. It's on a lift so it should be fine. I wish my boat would sell, that's 225 #2 that I've found for under 20k. I'd rather have a 225 over 205 if I had a choice.

Ric, just take the guy up on the Vista and trade in. Otherwise, you're gonna own the Stinkray forever.
