This is for the SX-A outdrive, and should fit the DPS drive also, I'll verify.

If anyone is interested in the next few weeks I'm going to work on getting some fittings made out of anodized aluminum of part #9. Volvo made it out of ABS plastic and it takes stress on all axis when you turn the wheel or lift the engine up or down. It's how your engine gets cooled down from the water pickup in the outdrive and when it breaks the engine will overheat unless you idle along. It also requires a special tool that is nearly impossible to acquire. This $5 part will cost someone over $200 to replace at the dealer..only to break again. It's planned obsolescence at it's finest.

I plan to have a few prototypes made with a hex head so a normal deep socket can install it. It will also be slightly thicker material then OEM. It should last the life of the boat. You do not have to remove the outdrive to replace this part. They will be made out of aluminum to avoid any issues with electrolysis.

I will post up in a week or 2 on how much prototype pieces will cost made locally. My dealer already called dibs on a few. Florida is very rough on plastics and it's one of the most common parts they replace on a day to day basis.

Ric,

Why would Florida be " very rough on plastics" as far as this part is concerned? I can imagine UV damage can be very bad there, but this part is not exposed to direct sunlight. As i mentioned on an earlier thread, on the SX shield this part, in the same location , also made of plastic is not problematic.

That is surprising since both the OMC Cobra and the Volvo SX used a similar design, maybe the newer style ones use a thinner plastic or maybe the water hose puts too much stress on the plastic fitting.
I've never had to replace mine and it's probably over10 years old.
