ok guys, I'm heading to New Melones in california on friday and was wondering if any of you have used AnchorBuddy? Any tips. Directions say just drop 30 feet from shore and proceed in. Anything other than that? Im going to be doing this from the back of the boat so I am pretty sure I'm going to have to be carefull of getting the line cought in the prop.

mk, I have never heard of this before, so I looked it up on the internet! Looks interesting, but I would be skeptical if you had a strong on shore current or a lot of boat traffic going by, pushing your boat back onto shore. If it retrieves as easy as it looks on the video, then I would think it might not be that effective in rough surf conditions.

Looks like it is best suited for a relatively calm shoreline. In that case, it looks like it would work O/K, and allow you to get in and out of the boat without having to walk waist deep into the water. I would be interested to see how it works out.

ps. Also, I wonder if this system has a separate line to retrieve the anchor from the bottom? If not, and your anchor sets in real good (especially in mud) it may be difficult to retrieve the anchor with a line that stretches so much. IF it does not come with it, I would attach a long enough section of line to the shank with a float at the end so that you can use this line to retrive the anchor.

you use it with the anchor line. basically it would be like you pulling on the line but the line still is attatched to the anchor, you do not use it alone.

I have an anchor buddy and love it for day camping and overnighting on the beach. I use it in conjunction with a bow line dog-screwed into the sand, or you could use a bow anchor. It's nice as it holds your boat in place and off the beach until you want to pull it in to gear up and go.
