So who is it again that's repairing it?? The guy that did the damage, or someone the insurance hired to do it? If it's the hauler, I'd go get it, and have someone else do it, and if it's the insurances guy, I'd call the insurance and raise hell there.. |

Um, yeah, who did what to where? Hard to follow who is taking responsibility. Is the boat haulers insurance taking care of this? Or yours? Also, the minute the repair guy hesitates to let me in his shop, my boat is leaving the next minute. |

Is the repairs being covered by the haulers insurence? If so call them and raise 3 kinds of stink. When I worked in a body shop many years ago I talked to lots of ajusters and reps. to keep the customer aware of how their repairs were going. Not saying that what we did was special but I think all shops should operate this way. Keeps everyone informed and what is expected out of each person involved. |

I wouldn't let someones friend who damaged my boat repair it as well... I'd bring it to a third party to repair it.. How do you know the friend isn't going to downplay damage? Plus, if he's blowing you off now before he's paid how is he going to be after he is paid? I see tons of RED FLAGS here.. I'd say adios!!! My truck is getting repaired from hail damage right now and I stopped by the shop and the guy took me over to see my vehicle and see how they do it.. You are the paying customer, it's your boat..you should have FULL Access to it, especially if he's not even working on it. Take the fact that he didn't start on it as a good thing and get it out of there ASAP |

Since your going through your insurance and subrogate-ing (no fair using fancy insurance words) his, go back to the original appraiser, point out what he missed, and then find a new shop to do the work closer to you. My first priority would be to get my boat out of this guys shop. Get a boat hauler, and move it. Claim it on your insurance. The way this guys sounds, I am betting you will not see your boat in the water by Apr 30th. |

This might be a little aggresive of me but, I use USAA for our home, auto, and life insurence. I dont however use them for our boat as they don't provide it, they user Progressive. Now , I have had to put a claim in for our home when it flooded and my wife's minivan when I hit a deer. When I had the guy our for our house doing the fix, he said that with USAA if a customer calls and complains about the company doing the work USAA does not deal with them ever again. I think that this should be policy with alot more companies. It keeps stuff like this happening. |

It is good that YOUR insurance company is paying the bills. I would think that the insurance company adjuster should have full access to the boat and the work that is being done (or not being done) to it. Your insurance company could also choose to pay to move the boat to a more reputable repair facility (at their expense) to make sure the job is done correctly. They should certainly be able to make sure the work is done properly before paying, because they would have to pay again if it still needs repair. In other words, I think you are on the right track working through your insurance company to straighten this out. Hopefully you could push them to move it to another shop. Or at least they could "Light the fire" without you being the bad guy. |

My gut feeling is I would really try to put pressure on thru your insurance company to have the work completed by "Todd" (or maybe that should be spelled "Toad") by the April 30th date that was agreed on. I assume these guys are capable of repairing it properly correct? If thru your insurance company they cannot confirm to make this date, then push to have your boat moved to someone that can quick. A concern I would have is, if Todd's shop is as rough and piss poor managed as it seems it is, would these charaters be low enough to actually sabotage your boat if it was moved to another shop before they where given the opportunity to complete the work by April 30th, especially since it seems they have started? You hate to even think that way, but. You seem to have thought well thru your options of repairing your boat, just too bad you ended up with this guy. Good luck. Hope you do have your boat properly repaired and floating by the end of April. Boating season in our area is already short enough. Note: An independant surveyor would seem like a good idea to have the repair work evaluated when completed. Mike |
