Howdy all :lol:

I just bought a 1986 Four Winns 170 Horizon .

My first boat ever , I'll be 59 in August , so it is an early present .

It appears to be a low hour boat , the hull and motor look new .
Has a 140 horse power 4 cylinder Mercury Engine , Out board drive looks new :!:
The trailer is perfect , No signs of rust or wear .
There IS NO HOUR CLOCK :shock:

I am in Southern Missouri , the boat has had a hard life . Not sure it even saw a cover ?

The floors are rotted , the seats are bad .
Runs well .
I will be getting into the floor next week :roll:

I'm a wood worker so I do not foresee any big issues .

Any info on these 1986 Boats would be nice .

Keep in mind that the deck (floor) is covered with a thin layer of fiberglass. When you cut out the old deck it will generate a lot of dust that is very bad for your health. Make sure you wear protective gear not just a dust mask. 3M p-100 filters, tyvec suit gloves & goggles. For resin work, use the fume respirator filters. The 3M face masks can be used with various filters.

Go over to www.iboats.com and look in friscoboaters videos (also on you tube) he does a great job of describing exactly what needs to be done for a total restoration.

There is a lot more to rebuilding the floor than what I am about to write, but keep this in mind before starting:

Once you cut out the floor and stringers, there is not much left of the floor to support the weight of the boat. Just sitting on the trailer will not do. The boat must be carefully blocked up so that the bottom hull does not get pushed up, bowed, or twisted. (yes, the whole boat could twist when there is no floor to reinforce it!)

I suggest blocking the boat up at the following points: At the transom, Port & Starboard corners (plus at center optional). Under the sharp "V" under the bow area. Two outboard supports about even with the steering wheel (not much weight on these, but just to stabilize). Then be prepared to add more blocking as needed to support the weight of your working on the large flat areas of the hull bottom.

If you have a trailer with long runners, then maybe this could be done on the trailer with the extra blocking under the transom and "V". If you have a roller trailer, then it should definitely be taken off the trailer and blocked up from the floor.

First off, Welcome aboard! You will find here that either "pictures or it didn't happen". I am guilty as charged in this catagory. Sounds like you got a good grasp on things so far. You will get alot of info from here.

The boat is real :shock: LOL's

I will post a picture .
It does have a tandem trailer ? double wheels . Has long runners on it .
I will read about it now :idea:
