I'm itching to get back out on the water. I love my 2001 Horizon 180 but have fallen in love with the luxury and style of the SL222.
Anyone made the upgrade and what are your thoughts? I don't think I can't go any larger than the 222 due to the lake we go to in Maine is rather small (McGrath Pond).
Are there any other makes that have a similar luxury small bowrider/deck boat?
I'm probably just dreaming but if I found a deal I couldn't pass I might be tempted.
Thanks Rob

You may as well go 242 if you are going to do the 222. I will solve your two foot-itis for a while.

Hey Rob. I feel your pain. I just ordered an SL242...and am trading in my Sundowner 225. I definitely fell in love with the SL series as well....been eyeing them ever since they came out. Looked at many different manufacturers....and I think maybe with the exception of a few Cobalts...and newer Chris Craft's....it would be hard to beat the Four Winns SL's in the small sport luxury boats...at least in my area. Especially at the price they sell for.

I will let you know how it goes when the new one comes in....in June.

If you need to stay in the 22ft. range, two that are on my list for next upgrade are the Chaparral 224 Sunesta and Monterey M3. Both of these have a better layout (IMO) than the SL222. And they have a head compartment (must have for the wife) where the SL222 does not.

Good Luck.

^^ My buddy is getting his chaparral 244 delivered this weekend, I'm going along with him, so I'll take some pictures of the two boats together and give you my opinion on which layout I like best.

The SL242 looks better visually when compared to a Chap 244 But the Chap has a much better layout IMHO. The Monterey m3 looks kinda cheesy which is funny cause all their other boats are amazing.

Owning a Chaparral I gotta say... They know what they're doing. My 215ss blows away the four Winn's equivalent (205 sundowner) in every aspect.

Cheesy, really ???? I think it is well thought out and functional for it's size. My wife really liked the bow seating and the power sun lounge.

I liked somethings on the chaparral better. FW's doesn't have a door to the bow on the SL242, so even with the windscreen centre in place, the wind still gets to you. I didn't like that the sink takes the place of the seat, on the FW, the sink folds out of the seat backrest.

I liked the grab handles on the seat above the swim platform, but I liked the swim platform on the FW better, it was lower to the water

I said cheesy because lots of bare fiberglass and starboard around the cockpit. The cooler isn't hidden, etc. Monterey boats are my favorite, but the M3 series is a little too brick and mortar for me. The 244FS(X) has the style and class Monterey is known for.
