I'm almost at the 400 hr mark and I'm making plans for the service. Here is the list, Please let me know if there is anything that I might have forgotten. 1. Replace Thermostat, gasket and o-ring in each engine (~$24) 2. Inspect all exhaust elbows (~$35, two sets of gaskets) 3. New Raw Water Impellers (~$70) 4. Replace rotors, distributor caps and plug wires, both engines (~$266) 5. Replace Fuel Filter, both engines (~$18) 6. Engine Oil & Filter Change, both engines (~$70) 7. Gear Lube change both outdrives (~$45) 8. Replace Gimbal Bearing and Universal bellows, both outdrives plus labor (~$500) All but #8 will be my elbow grease. |

Replacing all those electrical components, but not the plugs themselves? |

Plugs and belts were replaced about 75 hrs ago because of a ignition coil failure. The plugs were fouled so I replaced the plugs in both engines as a precaution. Belts were done as well, one was starting to squeel. |

I see. That makes sense. The only other thing I would do, which I'm sure you will, is inspect the coolant hoses (and possibly replace them). Are the original batteries still in it? |

Hoses get an inspection before every outing. SOP is to start the boat before I ever tow it to the ramp, that stuff gets a going over then. The batteries are both new, replaced last year. Went from Interstates to Wally World brand, cheaper and better warranty. |

Sounds like you got it covered. Good Checklist! I am right behind you at 335 hours and will definitely keep this for reference! Do you plan to post this on your projects website? In#8 above, do you plan to inspect the gimbal bearing and universal while you are replacing the bellows and only replacing the gimbal bearing and universal joints if they appear worn, or are you planning on replacing the gimbal bearings and universal joints no matter what they look like? If you do replace the gimbal bearing, 4Winns has gone to allegedly a "Maintenance Free" Gimbal bearing. I had that put in last year when I had a Gimbal bearing problem at the end of last season. The only other thing I was thinking of myself was checking the shifter linkage as sometimes lately it is a little sticky going back into neutral from forward. Based on the mechanic who will be doing the alignment, changing the gimbal is about an additional 1/2 hr labor and at the current time, proactive maintenance. Same with the bellows. I replaced on shift cable earlier(starboard engine). The port engine control cable seems good right for now. If I can muster the $, I'd like to install a Sturdy Corp Accusync engine synchronizer. That may have to wait until Christmas. The gimbal bearing part number is 3888555. Don't know if that is the new maintenance free one or not. I will be taking pics and posting each of the items on the project website. |

How about inspect/weigh the anodes? I assume you have a different list/ schedule on the trailer. |

Anodes changed 2 months ago when I touched up the finish on the drives. Yep, the trailer is on a different schedule. The wife actually calls me anal about the trailer...but I can't say I've ever had to fix anything other than a flat on the side of the road. Keep the ideas coming...I'm sure I've not thought of something. Ah, anchor rode and windlass service. Guess I should also add an inspection and lubrication of the thru-hulls and a cleaning of all the sea water strainers. |
