How would one go about getting new outside carpet for your four winns?

When I needed new carpet I ordered some Marine Tuft, used the old carpet as a pattern, and found someone with a carpet binding machine for the edges.

Much better, long term, than the manufacturer's rubber backed carpet.

Part of the point in carpet having backing is to keep it from moving around and/or scuffing the fiberglass underneath it. Granted, which will probably be non-slip surfaces anyway. Which would probably do more to grind at the carpet backing than harm the fiberglass. But I'd still want to be sure the backing material wasn't going to end up making things worse. That and there's some degree of comfort backing provides.

I recall another carpet maker (whose name escapes) me, that used a more clear kind of rubbery backing in strips, instead of a whole mat like the black kind.

Still, it's good to have alternatives, thanks for the links!

Call a company of "Carpets by Otto" they are out of Toledo Ohio, Ask for Otto Weik, I actually have his old boat and he can tell you the type of carpet you need. He cut and hemmed the one that is in my boat and its over 5 years old and it looks new and is tough as nails. I can't recall the type used for the boat. He will probably cut it for you and hemm it for you and send it out to you as well. Hope this helps

I replaced all the carpet last year - all with a high quality home carpet. There is a guy on my dock that does it on the side and has been putting this carpet in boats for years (at least 5 on my dock alone). It has a 'soft' bottom, not the scaly hard bottom of some carpets and has no rubber. The water runs right through it, which is great so it dries really fast. Each section was cut in one large piece and made to fit perfectly to the edges, so it doesn't move around at all. Best of all it looks great, feels great underfoot and didn't have the 'marine' cost.
