1987 190 HORIZON 4 CLY. 165. I just picked it up for short money, now I need to learn about them.
What do you think of this model year?

Welcome to the site!

Something that old is very hard to find parts for, but there's some knowledgeable folks on here that can help!

There could be many things wrong with a boat that old, but as long as it runs well, your biggest risk is probably wood rot. They used a LOT of wood in boat construction in those days, and there are lots of ways for water to get into it. If it's a "learning boat," it may be a terrific choice. Just know that it may "teach" you quite a bit.  But welcome to the forum and jump in with questions.

Welcome! Here is a thread I started detailing some of the problems my buddy had with that same vintage boat and engine combo.

Welcome to the forum! Most of the mechanical parts are made by 3rd party manufacturers, and are available for this vintage of boat. (Atwood, Taylor Made, Faria, etc.) These are your bow/stern lights, gauges, etc. In looking for OEM parts, Rick is right, some of the parts are hard to come by. However, it is not impossible if you are persistent and methodical about your searches. Parts are bound to turn up.

Do you have Cobra outdrive? Are you doing the work yourself? If so, you will want to pick up the OEM manual which is very helpful in performing any maintenance and keeping all systems in good shape.

Again, welcome. Glad to see another 80s boat still hitting the waters!
