If your tow vehicle doesn't sag when towing, you don't need them.
They are an alternative to aftermarket air bags. Lots of people have air bags and love them. They're adjustable for different loads, etc. It's also easy to find stories of people over-inflating them and blowing them out. Timbrens are a solid rubber bushing that takes the place of your axle snubbers which are attached to your truck's frame above the rear axle. They're "install and forget." They provide about 1" of vertical travel before the frame/Timbren lands on the axle, and then they cushion the load and transfer it down to the tires. In my case, sag was markedly reduced and handling was even more markedly improved; the whole towing experience changed after I installed them, like adding brakes to a trailer that didn't have them before. They're stupid expensive for what they are, but the lack of having to maintain the inflation and having no risk of blowing them out is worth it to me. The other alternative is to add a leaf to your springs (or replace them altogether with stiffer ones). With Timbrens, your non-towing ride quality is unchanged.

Disregard the wet stuff in that pic, I don't know what that is (pic borrowed from the Web).
