I noticed on a recent night time outing that the light bulb in my Faria depth gauge was out........I peeked in behind the gauge panel thinking there would be a twist out light bulb holder........but, unlike the other gauges I did not see one......

Anyone here ever changed a bulb in one?......can you tell me how it is done?

Thanks for any info!

I grabbed this pic off of Google but, mine is just like it......

Apparently there is an LED inside the gauge. The sales info says there are red, blue and white LED backlights available...maybe that's an option at purchase only.

Can't see how to open the gauge from any of the pics online. Probably best to contact them and ask what's up with that?

Yeah call their customer service dept. They may have you send it back for repair/replacement, but they provide very good service. Good time of year for this kind of stuff with the less-warm season coming on....

One guy holds the bulb and two more guys spin him around counterclockwise:-) sorry....that's an old Aggie joke.

Let us know what you find out cuz our time is coming I'm sure.

If you'd like to purchase mine with the gold trim, it still works, and the red LED backlight functions fine. I only swapped it out with a different one (in-dash Hummingbird) because 1) I had it on hand and 2) I changed out all my dash gauges for chrome bezels, instead of the gold trim that came with the boat. $30+shipping... I'll never use it again.

Here is the official response from Faria.........

Hello,

There is no replacement bulb. It is internally lit. Replacement is the only option. Currently amber is the only backlighting available in the aftermarket.

Regards,

Jason

I guess I don't really need a lite depth gauge

kd4pbs,

Thanks for the offer........mine are chrome trimmed......I'm not going to worry about it......I can always use a flashlight :x

Oh, I bet it can be replaced. Unless the whole thing is sonically welded so that it would have to be destroyed to get it open.

After looking at images on Google, It looks to me that the bezel is crimped around the housing..........so, yeah basically it would get destroyed if it is taken apart.........I might Dremel a hole in the side of it to see if I can get access to the bulb..

I see on Ebay there are ones exactly like mine in the $50-60 range.........but, the Admiral said no more boat expenditures for a while as I just spent a Clevelend on a new custom made "Baby blankey" for it............

Depending on the design, one can un-crimp the ring around the gauge. The ugliness this would create should easily be hidden behind the chrome ring where it is recessed into the dash.
