Hi

Looking to move on from my current Four Winns (Sundowner 205) to a Vista 288. Main question is mpg. Currently running a 5.0l MerCruiser. - vista 288 has a twin 4.7 volvo penta.
question is how many mpg's will i be getting now in my sundowner - i believe the vista 288 achieves approx 1.8mpg ?

thanks - hopefully somebody can help me out.

You didn't say what year, and I'm not seeing a 4.7 engine listed. According to the fast facts in the Four Winns website the 4.3 and 5.0 liter engines seem to range from about 1.125 to 1.5 mpg, depending on power settings.

I'm not sure you will be able to get a comparison for the boat in MPG due to the variability in calculating it. Boat manufacturers calculate fuel consumption in gallons per hour. This is because there are so many variables that can affect the boat, including current, speed, load, etc. So not sure you will be able to get an accurate mpg.

Calculating from the Four Winns Fast Facts numbers for the 2007 288 there may be a chance of exceeding 1.5 mpg, but the 1.125 to 1.5 mpg covers most situations with the gas engines. Engine choices are the 4.3 or the 5.0 from Volvo or Merc. A link is included to Four Winns Fast Facts. http://fourwinns.com/customer-service-catalogs.aspx

FWIW my 268 got about 2.1mpg, my 318 gets 1.3 or so.

Not necessarily, depends on your cruising "style". If you go hammer down all the time in your SD, then you'll prob get better fuel rate in the 288. If you were a cruiser, then you might see comparable numbers in the 288.

I know there was a poster here recently that was commenting on using the same amo0unt of fuel in a situation kinda like yours....dang memory.

Oh, lets see some pics of your SD (while ya still have it).

Before purchasing a boat with Volvo Pentas, I will caution you that the paint in the fuel pumps is prone to peeling off and fouling your fuel injection sytem. You can search this forum and the iBoats Volvo Penta forums for more information about this problem.

If your Sundowner 5.0 is fuel injected, I would guess your cruising mileage to be about 3.2 to 3.6mpg. Less with a heavy load.
