Hi, My H200 has been in storage since Sept 2012. It was winterized then stored, What should I get done apart from summerizing. |

Change engine oil, outdrive oil. Change water pump impeller. Change distributor cap and rotor (they corrode from sitting). Change fuel filter. Replace the battery(s). Should be okay after that. If it's carb'd you MIGHT have to throw in a rebuild kit. |

Also check all hoses and belts for wear/cracks. When was the last time the drive was serviced? Gimble/u-joints greased? Those are usually an annual task. You gonna be tearing up the upper river this year? I might get up there too...the party cove on the northeast shore of GI is calling. |

You will get many different answers on this one...but its a 1.5 year layup not a barn find in my opinion. I would do general yearly service and your good. Swap oils in motor and drive, change impellor and grease the serts. If fuel was stabilized it should be OK....top off with fresh fuel and change oil and fuel filters. I personally would remove plugs and hit the cylinders with a blast of fogging oil spray. Before cranking I would remove the safety cord and spin motor several times....then fire up and monitor temp.... Make sure batteries are charged and you should be fine....my battery is on year six and still good....make sure hoses and belts are good and no gasket leaks, but that something we all look for all the time I assume. |

Well thanks for the replies. It was winterized in sept 2012 with the marina that I always use and they stored it right through, They still have it. Oils and filters were changed before storage. It's injection got 4.3 Volvo GX I have had it since new. in 2010 although it's an 08 model (left over stock). Can't wait to get back on the water but got to make sure everything is A1 before attempting it. Battery is gonna be dead. It's got a full tank (35 gallon) of fuel that was treated before storage. The marina I use have a record of all work done since new. I have found them good in the past.I Just want real experience opinions. Thanks guys. Health and immigration have kept me away from the boat, all good to go now just got to go easy on my back. ![]() |

You might have to call out a company to flush out the gas tank also (there's a machine that does it, quite cool, not expensive), it's going to be full of deposits and films that will clog up that fuel injection quicker than you can say fuel injection. |

If Fran has had the boat the whole time and they winterized it, I would do whatever they think needs doing. |

TX H210SS wrote: ...its a 1.5 year layup not a barn find in my opinion. +1 on that. The fuel is what I would worry about the most. If it was ethanol blend, I would have the tank pumped out. If it was marina gas, you are probably OK. Batteries are probably fine...charge them and see how they perform before considering if they need replacing. I'm a little undecided about changing the engine oil if it was changed before the layup. It could have absorbed moisture during that time, depending on storage environment. I would probably use it a few hours, and then change the oil & filter. (running may remove some surface rust from the cylinders). Drive oil: I really don't see a need to change it if it was fresh before layup. The drive is quite well sealed. Just check it before use, and check again after first run. Check for "milkyness" (indicates oil/water mixed). I would re-check belts and hoses after first use. I would also keep a couple spare fuel filters on board (and tools to be able to change it) Most importantly: Get back out on the water!!! ![]() |

Hi Boater, Fran didn't have it although I bought it from him. I have had it with Collins Marine. I will ask them what they think needs to be done. They will probably say the same as you guys, change fuel and filters etc. I will get them to go over it not going to take any chances with it thou it only has 150 hrs on it from new. Loads of use 1st 2 yrs then had to lay it up due to having back surgery. |

Non-ethanol fuel gels and leaves a nasty film all over everything. |

Well it just had regular gas from a gas station, so it's E10 gas I guess. |

Wow, Petrol (gasoline) must be very different in the US compared to the UK ( where we also have ethanol added to " the pure stuff") If the "pure stuff" is allowed to evaporate ( like in a carb fuel bowl) , then there may be some deposits. In a full tank of fuel or a FI system; unlikely I'd have thought. I've never added fuel stabiliser to gas. If the tank is full of ethanol containing gasoline, just how much water can be absorbed regardless of how much ethanol is in there ? Where is it going to go ? Would the tank overflow as water was absorbed ? The physics seems wrong. I suspect very little water would be absorbed ( the effective area for exposure to damp air, that is the fuel filler vent, is VERY small compared to the volume in the tank. I recently put in 40 litres of 4 year old "gas" into the 65 litre fuel tank my car on top of around 10 litres ( from 2 x 20 litre jerry cans, as I no longer have a "gas" powered boat). It runs fine. Ric, By the way, I have an opinion about the 278 Vista with a "weedy" 300 HP engine ( it's got a D4 diesel engine though; the torque is pretty impressive ! ) |
