Hey I can make those up! Do you have the artwork on that?

I am a graphic designer by profession, I can whip them up in illustrator not a problem. I'm out of town till next week, I'll get you the art. What file type do you want?

Alright.. took it for a spin before the rain hit. Me, my father, half talk of gas.
Old prop = 18 pitch Alpha 4 aluminum. 41mph @ 4200rpms WOT. 24 mph @ 3200rpm cruise
New prop = 19 pitch Vensura SS. 43mph @ 4300rpm WOT. 30 mph @ 3200rpm cruise
Specs read for 4400-4800rpm WOT, but I'm propping for fuel savings and cruise mph not top end.

My goal was for a better cruise and hell yeah I got that, 5-6mph more. That = 5 miles per gallon with the Vensura compared to 4.1 mpg with the Alpha 4! Not bad, not bad at all.

Sadly, that's all my little 220hp 5.0 vortec has for power. It would be perfect with around 270-300hp, I'm hoping I can get that with carb/intake/cam swap this fall.

5 mpg? Never happen. Since your overpropped, you will use more than the book number for gals per hour.

I have compared mileage on 7 different boats on numerous 75-100 mile trips. My bet is that if you start with 20 gals in your tank, you will be empty in 60-65 miles. If you make 70miles, your doing great.

The only boat I ever had that got 5mpg was a 16ft.

Factory with the 260hp engine it's rated at 4.3 MPG at 30mph

http://features.boats.com/boat-content/ ... uddy-1382/

I've been on the St. John's River a month, boating EVERY saturday and Sunday... and have only purchased 40 gallons of fuel. When I brought it to the river last month I filled it up so I could calculate how much I used in a month. On average I boat 15 miles a day. According to my GPS it's 7.5 miles each way to my hangout spot. There's been days I've made the trip twice to pick people up that came late, etc, but I'm not accounting for that. I've been on the boat 12 times so at a MINIMUM I've traveled 180 miles. There's also days I've cruised at 4000rpm to run away from thunderstorms, again no accounting for that. Not including extra miles, just 15 miles a day and 12 days that's 180 miles I've covered using 40 gallons of gas.

My monthly average is 4.5 miles per gallon with a cheap aluminum prop with a WOT of only 4200rpms. Not bad!

I'll let you know in a few weeks how it's improved with the new SS prop and hydrofoil removed.

I would not bother for HP increase on your 5.0… It will not make much difference in your boat performance… I would spend money to replace your 5.0 with 5.7... then you would feel much difference… It is not necessary that HP would make difference for marine application but Torque difference would be a bigger factor…. "There is no replacement for displacement"
Also you could very well loose low end torque on your motor when you tinker around and look for higher HP since they will produce power at higher RPM and effect on torque curve…. Much boat with 8.2MAG has better hole shot than same boat with 8.2HO (50HP difference) but HO boat has higher top speed…. You want to make sure you have good balance for your application….
Good Luck!

Well if I motor swap it's getting a 383 stroker. It just all boils down to if I decide to keep it for another 2 years or not. I can source an intake and carb cheap on the used market. a 450cfm 4bbl and edelbrock intake should give me at least 400 more RPM, which at least with current prop it would put me right at 4800 rpms WOT. Won't help much with the ability to get on plane though. Smart tabs would solve that for $100, it did on my last boat.

The Vensura is the best prop I've ever used. Boat runs quieter, smoother, faster. It's hard to explain but it seems to make the boat cut through the waves better. With the Alpha 4 it used to slam hard coming down off waves, used to knock things around in my cuddy. Vensura? It's like the boat is floating on a cloud through the waves. No slamming, jarring, just floats through the stuff. I've noticed it needs a lot less trim to get in the "sweet spot" and it's very responsive to it. My boat now has a very beautiful cruise right around 28-30mph with 4 adults. I burned nearly 1/4 tank of gas today cruising around just because how good it rides now.

I'm going to play with the PVS some, try some medium hole sized plugs. Right now they're solid. It's supposed to help with getting on plane, and I need every bit of that.

That prop you linked to is a left hand rotation. wasn't sure if you saw that.

Good catch! I would have probably noticed before buying, but thanks! I think I am still thinking High-five after reading the intended use of the vensura on Mercury's website. My family is mostly into watersports, so I should just go with the prob designed for that (or quicksilver's version QST 5).
