Post subject:  whata day its been

Took the kiddo and buds to lake today and should have made u-turn before getting there after a hawk grabbed a snake from the edge of the road, took flight and dropped snake on my truck.

I said, well that doesn't happen everyday. This was first trip for year in prep for week long trip next month. Boat cranked right up as it did at house. Then the loud catlike screaming started...fuel pump...crap. It stopped, then would start getting louder and louder then stop. I figured hmmm. Maybe air from winter layup. I drove it around close to the launch area with no prob at low or high throttle.

OK..let's give it a go since running good. Wrong....I motored out, dumb I know, and wind started kicking it. I said nope, let's turn around cuz the whine is back and louder. Made the turn, headed into wind and that was it. Damnnnnnnittt.

It would whine when turning key on, would fire up and give me a shot of fuel for 10 secs then lose fuel until stalling out. I limped back in with that same scenario over and over.

Question??? High flow or low pressure pump or do I need the whole damn cell at 650 US DOLLARS. Not sure how to diagnose this.

I stored with full tank of stabilized fuel as always.
On way home I caught a glimpse of something flying across highway in my mirror. Wait...that's my bumper and line that flew out of boat. I've been traveling with them in same cubby for 4 years and never an issue.

Solution for the day was to stop and get hot apple pie with some blue bell icecream being we were in Brenham...home of blue bell.

"Sounds" to me like the high pressure fuel pump but careful testing of both should be performed, so you arent throwing parts at it.

Of course, lifting the engine hatch in the driveway and listening for the pump thats whining could also be a good way to diagnose. However, I have heard of 1 of the pumps going bad, and the other one whining because its under a different load. Thats what happened when my port side high pressure pump went bad - I went and replaced the low pressure because it was whining. Turns out, the high pressure one was bad the whole time (kept the low pressure one as a spare).

I am so jealous. Not about the first six paragraphs. Only the last one:

Blue Bell is the best :D

I've been reading different forums and have read that if one pump craps out then the other is close behind. I have 130 hrs on a 6 yr old boat I've had for 4 years. apparently the major prob is painted interior of fuel cell which degrades.

I have to do this myself being the marine mechanics make way more than me. I was thinking of getting new anticyphon valve, new fuel cell and regulator. The extra money seems less costly than killing another pump.

Anyone been here and lived this? Thoughts....
