Is that a kicker mount? Seems unusual for that style boat....around here anyway. |

Started up fine, everything worked and seemed okay but the guy refused to lake test with cash in hand. Walked away. Too bad. |

His advertisement never claimed that the engine ran or was OK. Probably has a cracked block and/or bad manifolds. |

rpengr wrote: His advertisement never claimed that the engine ran or was OK. Probably has a cracked block and/or bad manifolds. He did on the phone. The guy was a prick. He said "for $4000 you should just take it how it is, it's a good boat I'm the 2nd owner my father was the first. This weekend if it doesn't sell I'm going to have it professionally detailed and raise the price to 6 grand". My buddy also offered to have a mobile marine mechanic come check it out so he knows what to fix, the guy refused. No service records. The oil filter and fuel filter were so old they were rusted over, and it was not a salt water boat. That takes 5+ years. Something is severely wrong and he doesn't want anyone to know, trying to make a quick buck on someone. If the guy would just tell the truth what's wrong, it would make an amazing project boat. Hull, floors, cabin, seats are all in 6/10 condition. Just needs to be repowered. It's a limited edtion 201, it's not something you just throw away it's worth fixing. |

$100 oh wow that is crazy. i bought 3 impellers for my boat and stuck 2 not he parts shelf along with 2 full OD gasket sets and i spent around $85 for all of that to have spare parts on hand whenever i need them. But still anything can be found. Your local dealer may not have the part on the shelf any more but an older marine shop with NOS inventory will. I have a shop in the next town that had a lower unit water color tube on the shelf. Dude charged me $5 for it. he had all sorts of parts. I walked by 5-6 efi OMC cobra and king cobra motors. he had an isle of OMC out drives back to the 70s. Has a plethora of parts. said "if he didn't have what i wanted his cousin over yonder would have it" sometimes Walmart is not the best place to shop for boat parts or the brand spanking new boat dealer that has not been in that location for 50 years.. You have to hunt the old parts at the OLD shops.. BUT that drive does have rare parts, But they can be had. shit for 4k and y'all already knew it was needing repower, y'all should offer 3k see what guy said and hell even 4k you can still afford to reposer and make it whole. I was under the impression of 4k walk up inspect, no major holes or hull damage and drive away with it.. I think y'all missed a good boat by allowing the lake test to break the sale.. that boat can be made to go so fast very easy.. |

Same lower hull as my 88 H-200, 21* dead rise excellent rough water handling. While you might find some of the drive parts, good luck finding a shop that will know how to work on it. |

LouC wrote: Same lower hull as my 88 H-200, 21* dead rise excellent rough water handling. While you might find some of the drive parts, good luck finding a shop that will know how to work on it. I have a king cobra cone clutch and hesitated before I purchased my boat. After a lot of research I realized its not something to fear as much as many like to make it. Yes they are rare, but lots of parts are still available, there is a company now making impeller kits and many of the parts are interchangeable with the 95 to I forget which year Volvo SX drive. I found a mechanic near where I boat who has no issues working them and I live by a mechanic who has vast experience with them. He has at least a dozen lower units that I know of and one complete drive still in the crate. He is also the one that informed me about the Volvo SX and just how similar, as in very, it is to king cobra cone. Volvo purchased OMC in late '94 and leveraged the OMC design heavily for years. Hell the even used the same casting. My point is, yes its not a merc bravo, but one does not need to avoid it like the plague. They are very durable, smooth, strong drives. My 2 cents for what its worth. |
