Just a note to let you all know, I will be helping in getting this forum upgraded to the latest version of phpbb - please be patient during this process, there may be some down time - here and there.

PM me of you have any issues. This upgrade will help eliminate the spammers and actually add some new functionality to the form to boot.

Thanks
Scott

If you're taking feature requests I'd love to have two things:

A 'active topics' link on all pages (to save me from going back to the main page)

And a way to have the e-mail updates contain the text of the posts. It's sometimes more convenient to see what the reply was in the e-mail instead of visiting the web site. Convenient in that it keeps me from going back to the website and squandering another hour wandering around on the web!

I want to give waytooslow a great big thank you for helping me out. I've volunteered to take over the site. I am well versed in the I/T infrastructure and networking world but am a programming weeny. His help, guidance and support is very much appreciated.

Well the switch has been thrown, I hope you all enjoy the new version.

There is still more to do, but at least I have the forum back up and running, please post issues in the Issues area.

the best part is that John and myself will not be getting mega amounts of spammers to delete.

This was the hardest upgrade for this version of phpbb that I have ever encountered so far, the good thing - is now I have resolved this update, I can store that knowledge for later use - most issues revolved around the server limitations in mySQL.

Total time to complete? = ~24.
Should have taken 3. -

Well, A Big Thank You to Both of You! Looks Good at this Point! Nice Job! btw, what happened to ifourwinns? Thanks there too, for getting this site going in the 1st place. I have not only found it to be informative, but I think this is a Great Group of Boating Enthusiasts, and I am happy to say that I even made some new friends along the way.

WaytooSlow and John,

Thanks a bunch! I dig the new PHBB scripting, looks great!

If you guys ever need a hand let me know.. I do IT for a living, have been on the net since before Al Gore invented it and have been around forums and IRC for more than a decade (actually, getting close to two decades on the net) :)

I really like to dabble with graphics, so if you need anything done in that respect, shoot me a PM.

Great work!

Brett

Yeah, that aligns pretty well with every migration I've been involved with for 20 years now  .

At least this one is appreciated by the end users ;).

At least it follows along with the theme of boat maintenance/repair.

Wife: "How long do you think [project] will take?"
Me: "I don't know, shouldn't be too long. Maybe an hour at the most."
Me: [3 hours later] "OK, done!"

I have a standard answer..."I'll be in bed when you wake up in the morning"

Is anyone else having a problem with having to log in every time they visit the forum? I haven't changed any security settings and am not having the same problem with any of the other (too many) forums I frequent. I log in here and check the "keep me logged in" box, yet each time I come back I have to do it again. This started at the same time as the upgrade.
