I have never seen anyone else use the same towing rig as me, but today I ran into a fellow X5'er using his diesel to tow his boat. (He had already walked it out), but I still had to snap a picture. Chatted for a while about boats, and cars, and I had to haul the 242 out, while he was just putting his in.

Not too many people have 65k to spend on a tow rig that's only rated for 6500lb.

Show off

(I'm also a fellow BMW owner and I'd love to have an X5 to tow my boat hahaha)

I knew you'd be the first to respond :) The silly OE hitch in North America is the limiting factor, the truck is rated for 7700 lbs in Europe. These things are cheap now the F15 X5 is out, trade in your 3 series, and you are set ;)

The only thing I'm trading in my car for is a Jet Black E92 LCI M3

Looks like a boat launch drag race might be brewing!

Being an ex BMW X owner, the only tip I'd give is to proactively service the "Fill For Life" ZF transmission.
Using a BMW for heavy duty use while under new car warranty is fine, but start saving your pennies for future out of warranty failures.
I'll never own one again & will continue choosing the Ford/ Chev/ Toyota variant, due to running costs.
My wife did love it, though!

If your equipment is OEM from receiver to the frame, my guess is that is rated for 7,700. My Porsche Cayenne S is. If you are talking about the hitch, Class 3 hitches go up pretty high. I have a class 3 8,000lb hitch on my car. You can get one for 10,000lb here: http://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/And ... M3410.html
