I'm looking for a lake area I can get a last season outing. I live in south central Missouri and want to trailer to a Southern location where the water and air temperatures are still warm. Any suggestions? Arizona, Southern Florida are too far. I'm wanting a 12 hour drive or less. I live in the neighborhood of Lake of the Ozarks. Thanks for any and all suggestions Eric |

I'm not quite sure what's going on with the weather up north, but here in Orlando mid 90's air temps and water temps in mid 80s. If you were to ever visit here to boat (the St. John's River is quite awesome) I would suggest not visiting until November when it's comfortable out (low 80s air temp). Otherwise if you're not from here and used to it, you'd want to die. |

I'm very familiar with Orlando and Central Florida I'm originally from there. That is a bit too far to drive right now. Thanks for chiming in. Eric |

Not from the Dallas area but have visited Lake Lewisville and it has a nice "Party Cove" to visit. looks like approx an 8 hour trip. Should be fairly warm there still I would think? Maybe someone from the DFW area will chime in. |

Don't know the current status but I've heard that a lot of the Texas lakes are severely low due to drought. Not sure they'd be as good as they should be this year. |

Thanks for any and all suggestions Eric Eric, What type of cruising are you more interested in: Spending most of the time on the hook swimming and fishing with minimal time spent at marina's, or would you be more interested in lakes with more marina's/developments on them? I see quite a few reservoir lakes within a 12 hour radius of your location but most look like they wouldn't be much different than what's in your backyard with LOTO. pet575 wrote: Don't know the current status but I've heard that a lot of the Texas lakes are severely low due to drought. Looks like Austin Texas made the list here, so might be an option if the water levels are ok. http://www.boatingmag.com/10-best-places-to-live-and-boat That should be about an 11 hr ride.

The hill country lakes in Austin area are nice....there is a chain of lakes north of Austin, but Lake LBJ is the constant level lake. Lake Travis has been low for years which has really narrowed the boating area and fun. Most of the coves are dry at Travis. So if your looking to drive that far LBJ is safest bet. |

Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine being willing to drive 12 hrs to a lake just b/c the air is a few degrees warmer...especially when you have LOTO and Table Rock and Bull Shoals all so close. Now, I can understand wanting something new and different than those lakes. Maybe those are all BTDT and "boring". I get that. I don't have anything constructive to add. It was in the 30s the last couple of nights up here and I still can't imagine trailering 12 hours to get to a "warmer" puddle. |

Here's a better idea: Fly to Florida, take a cruise. I went on this one 2 years ago. I highly recommend and it will be cheaper than your planned trip http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacrui ... hipCode=AL |

Bliss36 out on the hook away from everything is best. I like a marina around though for anything that might be needed. Rules on my boat, you plug up the toilet you get to unplug it. So all reading room business waits until a trip to the marina. I have been looking at Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. Temps for the weekend of the 19th looks good so far. I'm going to call the park tomorrow and see what the current water temperature is. I looked at Lake Lewisville but it looked like a lot of houses around and not many quite places. Why do I want to go on a trip to get wet? I like different things, a change of scenery is always nice but mostly it's too cold to jump in the water here. We like getting into the water and just sit on our "pool saddles" and chill out. I haven't been out of state in a few years and it would be nice. I'm the kind of person who likes to do things on a whim. Eric |

Scratch Texas and Arkansas mud puddles. Make the 8.5hr trip to Lake Cumberland. You will not regret it. More coves and spots to be on the hook than you could visit in 3 years. Forecast 78 degrees and sunny. Do it. |

Lake of the Ozarks water temp is 79 right now according to http://odd.net/. That's pretty damn warm. We peak out in mid-70s on south side of the Cape in bays, peak out at mid-60s on Cape Cod Bay...so 79 sounds pretty good to me. |

Supposed to be gusty...highs in mid to possibly upper 60s. Yesterday, of course during the work week, was 76....now we are sliding in the wrong direction...maybe some flounder fishing with the kids. |
