There's a black tab on each side of the drive on my Volvo. It is missing from the drivers side. Just noticed it. It sits right behind the hydro for the trim. Looks like about 3 inches in size. Has two holes . Wish I could post a picture in this site but not sure how that works. Does anyone know what this is called so I can order one ? |

go on to www.volvopentaparts.com you need to know either the model # or the exact model of the drive. I can't decipher Volvo's arcane model numbering system. It would be far simpler to use production years I think. The part you are referring to is probably a plastic plate #s 53 and 55 in this diagram...(this is the joint venture OMC product that was the same as the Volvo SX in the same model years)....I have the same thing on my Cobra and what happens is that the retainer rings rust out and then the plastic plate falls off....You have to pull the drive to replace them.... http://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-ev ... /57028.cfm |

Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing I won't sink if I take it out this week? I love this site . Great for first time boaters with questions.. |

Nope no worries one of mine fell off a few years ago and the boat is moored, I had no idea till I pulled it out in October....replace it when you have the drive maintenance done... |
