And left visible damage, would you just drive away like nothing happened?
I just don't understand why the world is full of A-holes anymore! :x
Last year someone hit my swim platform and left a mark. Yesterday I pulled the boat and while cleaning the water line I found the boot stripe damaged and a chunk taken out of the gel coat. There were also a few other superficial marks that look like they will rub out. But as I looked at the side of my boat I can tell it was hit quite a few times. There are too many marks to be just one incident.
I've NEVER hit another boat. But if I did, especially if I left visible damage, I would man up and leave a note apologizing and offering to pay the repair. I'm so pissed that I'm thinking about not keeping it in a slip next year. At the very least I'm going to have a talk with the marina management and see if they can move me next to someone more responsible and that gives a shit! There seemed to be a different boat in the slip next to me every month all summer. If it had been the same boat I'd have a talk with the guy.
I've seen people hang bumpers down the side of their boats and even met a guy who would tie a cheap Kmart inflatable on the side of his boat when he wasn't there to keep this kind of stuff from happening. I always kind of chuckled at them but now I'm thinking I may have to join them. What the hell else can I do?
Ok rant over. I just had to vent.

I hear ya brother! I had my Marina move me since I was next to a transient slip. I ran a line, with 4 fenders, pulled fairly tight to help the chuckleheads get into their slip and stay off my boat. Now, next to two very experienced, courteous boaters. Feel much better this year.

When I pick my mooring spot each year I try to pick a spot well away from other boats.
This spot gets shallow at low tide so it's not so popular. I have to row out a bit further with the dinghy but its worth it. Plus in that spot I can keep an eye on it from our house....

You should be pissed....its bad enough that morons ding up our vehicles and its usually people driving raggedy POS unkept vehicles. I would imagine its the same at the boat slips.

I feel for ya. Guy hit me last year while I was on my boat screaming at him not to hit me! After he struck me he said there was no damage, when I got her on the trailer I noticed a large nick in the rub rail and a gouge in the gel below where I could see from the deck...got his plate from his tow vehicle but no way to match that...I just hope karma finds him someday.

HA, guess none of ya'll ever dry racked your boat and stored at a marina. Marks are normal.

I know the feeling! Had a guy hit my boat at the ramp once and did a fair amount of damage. After a bunch of his drunk and tattooed mates surrounded me and my family we left. Insurance fixed the boat but the family were a bit shaken for a while.....Karma caught up with him and his boat sank the next time he left it in overnight... I heard he forgot to tighten the drain plug and it fell out

There are Arsholes everywhere some even have enough money to buy a boat....

Florida has this really cool law: You're allowed to openly carry a firearm while fishing. You read that right. You can 100% legally have an AR15 strapped around your shoulder or a handgun sitting 100% visible in a holster on your belt while while bass fishing. You better believe I have a fishing license, fishing pole, and handgun on my boat when I'm on it.

I've never been in a situation where I've had to show a fellow boater how I legally open carry, but I'm quite sure if that day came where I'm surrounded by a bunch of tattooed mates they will rethink their motives seeing as how I'm exercising my right to open carry.

Just sayin.

Douchebags who feel the need to group up on families deserve nothing more than what they get - which karma(?) apparently delivered...

In Australia we have EXTREMELY strict laws around gun control, which I do actually support. My opinion is that most likely these thugs would be the type to carry weapons anyway, and I walked away with only dented pride. I let Karma  have the last laugh... Well actually the whole marina had a laugh and nobody was hurt!

We have all done a dumb thing at some time and damaged someone else's property, but the right thing to do is take responsibility for your actions. Which is what angers me about people who hit your car/boat while you are not there and don't leave a note. Cowards I say!
