Ok i am in no rush at the moment.. this is for my 14' glass fishing skiff.

I am looking for a 25-35hp tiller outboard 2 stroke. with hub nut.. i do not want anything to do with a sheer pin prop. the newer the better but 80s is fine. long or short shaft. And the name of the game is cheap. i do not want to spend $1,200 on a 20 year old motor when i can go to the dealer and pay 3,800 financed for a brand ass new Evinrude with 3 year no maintenance warranty and auto winterize.

Ideal i would like an late 70s to present 2 stroke 25-35Hp tiller outboard.. I am not afraid to play mechanic to get it running.

KEEP AND EYE out or if someone has one in the back of the shed that would be great.

I live in duck hunting region and for some reason everyone thinks that running or not an tiller no mater how old is worth a grand and that is crazy talk to me for something 15-20 years old that needs an overhaul...

Thanks.

If ya wanna show off to your buddies, drop a few grand on a Mercury 25XS or Yamato.

I need to go fast and get to the fishing hole. No need for a showing off. The fish in the cooler will do all the bragging

When I was on the kick to build a fast dinghy before I got the ski, the mercury 80s/90's 2 stroke tiller seems to be the ticket. Under 100lb, fast, not expensive. Pull start tiller.

yea i hear ya for sure.. my issue is all that i find for sale people are wanting 800-1,500 for an 80s 25 and that is crazy talk. their is an old mechanic/boat yard 2 towns over that i need to just roll up on and make a cash beer combo deal on a friday ya know how the country boys like cash and beer. So that is the only hope that i have at the moment. And knowing me having owned a few race tricked out tilers before i will most likely upgrade the motor so i am ok with having to work on it as long as the compression is their.. i am simply not in the mood to drop a G on a tiller that needs work.

It's tough finding 2 strokes for a deal these days. They want ridiculous prices but that's what happens when they no longer make something that was "better" than the new versions. No one wants to give them up. I know some people will disagree but nothing like being able to pick up a 15hp 2 stroke outboard with one hand.
Keep an eye on ebay and craigslist some deals do pop up but its a long wait.

I have a 90's 2-stroke 3.5hp Nissan outboard that weighs 35lb with a built on gas tank. That's going with me to the grave.

The 2-strokes are better I think. A 25hp Merc 2-stroke tiller weighs exactly 95lb. A new Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke weighs 175lb. I don't see something adding 80lb to the transom of your boat "better".

Less exhaust pollution I guess, but then more exhaust emitted from burning the extra fuel to push the extra 80lbs.

they still make 2 stroke motors FYI.. Evinrude makes a few tillers that i would 0% finance for sure in a heart beat. But the thing is it weigh around 150# for a 15" rope start, 160# rope 20", and up to 180# for electric start equipped. now this can be managed with one hand by most men.. and if i buy new i will buy a 30hp Evinrude hands down. But i would prefer an older 2stroke with no electronics super simple to work on and billion universal parts and you can not rod select years.

Little brother has a Registered 35 johnson tiller on paper.. but in the Dyno it makes 67hp. it is a 45 block, 75 carb that is jetted and ported, machined heads to put the compression in the sweet spot, race reeds, velocity stack intake, Cryo dipped pistons and rings, balanced shaft.. now they never made a 45 short big foot. but they made a 35 big body short upper long lower and a long upper short lower big foot 75. so it is a 35 upper short with a 75 short lower big foot, this miss mash of parts and various years makes a 14" big foot tiller. so it is a 14" 67hp at present tiller that tips the scales at 115#. on a jack and tilt bracket on the transom of a 15' smooth weld aluminum boat that will flat out scream. we are padding the hull this winter to hopefully gain 3-4mph and cut down the static resistance of the wide foot print that he is currently running on. Then the process of dealing with Jerry at the race shop testing who knows how many surface perching cleaver props to dial it into the 50s MPH that is in a 15' loaded duck/fishing boat registered as a 35hp.. MUWAHAHAHA

yea thats the kind of people we are.. i wish i still had my 12' hydro that somBich would scream 4"x6" pad was all that was int he water other than the foot of the motor.. I had fun as a kid..

the new cast exhaust is a huge weight adder along with electric starter and the alternators.. people forget that the alternator is a few pounds then a few pounds for a starter, couple pounds for the electronics, and couple for the hippie tree hugging power robbing exhaust and poof you added 50-85# to a tiller
