I have and thanks for the suggestion. I actually saw that 280 online before and it is a beauty. However, I am limiting my options to boats with single engines (don't want the extra fuel and maintenance costs) and boats with beams no wider than 8'6" to keep my indoor rack storage options open as that is the limit for some marinas in our area.

I am still keeping my eyes open for a cream-puff Formula 260BR or 270BR in my price range though ;)

I keep forgetting the beam is 9' 2" on the 280's....total bummer for your needs...Thats crazy they keep the beam that narrow.

Do they not support the wider beam? or does it effect the price?

Some places do not support the wider beam for indoor rack storage (Beacon Cove said their max is 8'6" for indoor rack storage) and others charge more. But my main thing is I don't really want to step up to twins and burning twice the fuel...

gotcha.

I know there are a few running around Oklahoma and Texas that are single 7.4Ls... Which is something I have ran into looking for one, I really want twin 350s w/bravo IIIs. Seem to be common, just a lot of twin 7.4l boats, which im not interested in for the same reason as you!

My in-law's just sold their 38' Carver with twin 454s. They would burn 25 gph at cruising speed. Needless to say, they spent a lot of time "camping" at the marina.

I couldn't imagine that. I'm getting around 5-6gph right now at 30mph cruise after prop and smart tab install. $10 bucks for gas lasts all day.

Watching them fill up their 200 gallon fuel tank at $4.99 per was pretty brutal to see...

Are you sure you don't want a funship? You can get 2005 234's all day long for 22k

Water is too rough on Lake St Clair for a funship. Ideally, the next boat would have a deadrise of ~21 degrees.

but thats a hard comparison...i mean my buddy has a 42 Sundancer with the 7.4Ls, and watching his $600 fill up for half a tank sucks...

my reading is the twin 350s shaking out at 13gph at cruising speed...

isnt that the truth!

This reminded me, consider a 2000ish 245 sundowner....my dad has one, and it handles the lake amazingly...good power, fits within your sub 9 foot beam problem (hangs in our small well on Harsens)....we run across the lake all the time in it, (his new toy is a 62 Chirs Craft Sea Skiff)

its a cuddy, but there is ample space in the rear area to accommodate 8 nicely.

We really want another bowrider. Some of the other boats I am also considering include the funship's bowrider cousins H240/H260, Cobalt 262/272, Chaparral 256 SSI, Monterey 268SS, Rinker 246, Regal 2500/2700, Sea Ray 250 SLX and of course, the Formula 260br/270br. The Bryant 268 also looks nice but they are non-existent around here.

Chaparrals shine in rough water. No matter what time of day or night, if there's a small craft warning I'm out on my 215. It cruises like a sunday drive in water that would swamp your bowrider with it's 21* deadrise.

Spending money that I could afford, out of all the boats you listed the 256ssi would be my choice. You'll be very happy with it's build quality and how it handles in rough water.

I saw that one and I agree, it is very nice!

Unfortunately, it does not have a trailer and I do not want to pay out of pocket for one. If I buy the trailer with the boat, I can finance it altogether.

I did find a Formula 240BR that is nice but I think I will hold out for the 260BR if I get a Formula.

I'm not sure you should limit yourself.

Talk to your bank/credit union and see if they would be willing to cut 2 checks from the loan, one to buy the boat and one to buy a trailer from a dealer. As far as the bank is concerned the collateral position is enhanced and they get more interest.
