Hello all I am new to the boating community I have been looking at my loacal for sale adds here in Arizona, and have found a decent amount of FW's for sale. I am looking for something to take my family of 5 out on the lake for a weekend, nothing crazy some tube and fun mostly.

I found this:

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/boa/4960043069.html

Any input would be helpful. What should I look for when I look at this boat? Is the price right? Is the the wrong boat for what I am looking for?

Right off the bat, you will need a new marine head unit for the sound system (~$200). It needs at least two cup holders for the bow (~$20). The seat and engine cover stitching should be taken care of so they don’t get worse. The outdrive skeg is damaged which means there was some impact, you will want to carefully inspect and maybe get a skeg guard. It does not have an extended swim platform which makes it a bit harder to get in and out of the water. Ask about the boat covers and condition. I do not see any snaps which makes me think it has a mooring/trailer cover. Is the bimini top in good shape (appears to be missing the boot cover). They say it has a lot of recent work, I would ask them to specify when the work was completed, by whom and if they have any receipts.

Good luck!

Without knowing about your situation, so take this for what is worth. I have said several times, buy your second boat first. Buy the newest in the size category you can afford.

In the end it will be cheaper that way. You'll end up puttin a bunch of money into an older boat you can't get out and in 2 years you will want to sell it and get a newer or bigger one.

I'm not a betting man, but I'd safely put $100 on the table that it was sunk not too long ago. Some of those things you just don't replace unless they've been submerged.

I am thinking they were just throwing parts at a no-start issue rather than properly diagnosing the problem. However, that would explain why a new headunit is needed.

The way the outdrive is damaged means it backed into something with the prop not moving. Boats always sink ass first, and being Az... it found rocks.

I wouldn't touch that boat unless it was $1000.
