It may vary by location on the North American continent, as elsewhere as well, but the north and eastern areas of Canada and the USA have had a colder winter than usual. I went out to my marina (central Ontario) yesterday to complete summerization forms and check the melting on the lake. The only open water I could see was between the two lakes (Simcoe and Couchiching), as it flows quickly and is open every winter. The marina staff told me they were working on some slips this week and had to cut through 30" of ice. The weather predictions remain cold for the next while. I hope spring arrives soon, and if not , we better get an extended fall.

I hear your pain. I to was up to the marina on Saturday, and still saw sleds zipping across the lake!! There is still a lot of is out there but it will melt quickly. The ice just need to thaw around the edge and then the wind needs to push it around!! I would say we are looking at the 2nd week of May before we are in

Hopefully just delayed and we have a hot and extended summer since we are long over due. The last couple summers have been cool, late to get here, and quick to leave. We were hoping to launch in 2 weeks but after getting 5 inches of snow today my spirits are a little dampened. Hard to believe we hit 70 degrees 2 weeks ago.....

It is looking better than last year in my neck of the woods.
Last year we still had ice floating in the harbor mid May. This year the harbor is already half thawed and it not even April yet. :D
Snow is pretty much gone as well already.

Lake Erie is still 83% ice covered. It's going to be a while.

Hopefully the lake gets up to swimming temps this year. We were hard pressed to see anything over 70 degrees last summer. In the past I've seen 81 degrees in the middle of the lake - I'd like that again please.
Sure hope the ice bergs are gone by May, we need to launch (and cross the lake) in the first two weeks of May.

Wow, and we've already been out 2 times this year.

I haven't dewinterized outs yet, but some of our slip-neighbors have so we have stowed away on their Sea Ray a couple times already. Our docks don't have the water turned on just yet (about another week) then I will be able to fully dewinterize and the wife will be witting to sleep on the boat (she won't sleep on the boat until she can flush the toilet)

Water is still about 35 degrees here, and I saw two crazies out on wave runners this weekend.

Starting to warm up around here. No snow this year which will suck for river boating. I give it until July 4th and we'll have to move to the lake.

I think someone forget to tell the weather we were done with the negative end of the thermometer. It was -4F (-20C) this morning where I am. Still things are looking to be in better shape for this spring than last year. The lakes are up again with well above average levels and the ice is not as thick as last year. The first ships are heading to the Soo Locks as we speak. They plan to open tonight at midnight. On schedule. Last year was delayed until April 4th.
