my factory thru hull transducer is starting to seep water . is there any sealants out there that will set up in a short period of time. i would like to pull out the boat fix the problem and put back in with out having to bring back to the house for a couple days for it to cure. |

Well............ 1. Silicone can be used even under water, but would probably not hold up on the outside of the hull. You might try using it on the outside and inside. I've seen a person apply a gob of it with their hand on the inside of an aluminum aircraft float. It should stick and stay if there is not too much pressure to push it out of the way. 2. A 5 minute or 10 minute epoxy would set up in a short period of time. Applying it to the seam area on the outside might work. You would need to dry the area as well as you can. 3. Other sealants like 3M 5200 might work, but will take longer to dry. 4. You could try removing the transducer, cleaning the area up, and re-installing it with new sealant. This is probably the hardest to do, but will probably give the best results. |

This is probably the hardest to do, but will probably give the best results thats what i want to do but the 5200 takes 7 days to fully cure. i have used the 2 part epoxies b4 but they dont work as well as advertised.

You can use 3m fast cure 4000, 5200 is very difficult to remove if you ever have to change that transducer. Boat Life caulk will also work. The 4000 cures tack free in 22 min and is fully cured in 24 hrs |

Great info! I am in a similar situation where I just installed a transducer on the transom. I now have a 1-1/4" hole above the waterline to seal. At the same time I would love to get my boat in the water next weekend, and the 72 hours required for the 3m 5200 to cure is not going to work. I am going to see if I can find the fast dry 4000 today. As a side note I was on the 3m site this morning and they now have a fast dry 5200, but from what I read, this product is over kill for what I am doing. I have tried to remove 5200 in the past and it is not fun. |

3M 5200. It's designed to cure underwater, it actually helps as water is what cures it. I've personally done it myself with both my A/C thru hulls and trim tabs on my Chaparral. Pull boat out, seal with 5200, put boat right back in the water. It's what it was made for. You can buy this to remove 5200 easily: http://www.marineformula.com/buy.html |

Thanks for the info. I have 5200 but it didnt say anything on how fast u could put it back in the water. Ric if it sinks when im down there in the fall ill be looking for u. lol |

I pulled the boat tonight to reseal the transducer but it was cracked around the lip.so i brought it back to the house, Do they make a plug or do i need to fiberglass it in |

Would a new transducer not be the easiest? That's what I would consider, a lot faster and simpler than a plug. |

Not really . not the same size as the original one .I already installed a new depth sounder with a transom mounted transducer. boat has had 2 replacement depth sounders b4 i got it. there was a transom mounted one and a puck style in the bilge along with the factory installed thru hull. |
