Post subject:  Maryland congressman listens

This is from Dutch Ruppersberger

Dear Mike

This letter acknowledges receipt of your communication regarding H.R. 2550,
the Recreational Boating Act.

The Recreational Boating Act would amend the Clean Water Act to restore the
exemption for recreational boats from Clean Water Act regulations governing deck
runoff and ballast water. Without this exemption, recreational boaters would
have to pay for permits originally intended for large commercial ships. This
bill was introduced on May 24, 2007 by Congressman Gene Taylor of Mississippi.
It was referred to the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment in the
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

I am a proud cosponsor of this bill. As a Baltimore native, I understand
the importance of boating to our state’s way of life. All Marylanders,
especially boaters, know how important it is to protect the Chesapeake Bay and
other waterways in our state. The 2nd District of Maryland follows the
Chesapeake coast from Dundalk to Havre de Grace. I want to make sure that people have the freedom to enjoy boating in Maryland, while
preserving our beautiful waterways for future generations.
