So a few months back I decided to get a DJI quad... took it out on the water this weekend and got some boating shots. Here's the youtube link. Enjoy!

Belmont A Palooza 2015:

Taken at Belmont Bay about 20 miles south of Washington DC on the Potomac River.

It's videos like that that make us all want to be boat owners. Some day I am going to shoot drone footage of repair and maintenance, and set it to the same song and see if THAT makes anyone buy a boat, hehe.

Great video..thanks.

Just a quick question, sorry if it seems dumb, but I don't understand how this raft up was possible? I've only really done it once so I really have no idea what I'm doing, how can those boats be anchored off the bow in two different directions? Am I missing something?

Thanks! Fun to fly no doubt... just trying not to turn it into a submarine prematurely. Chris, a few of the boats in the raftup have both bow and stern anchors out. The usually space it like every 5th boat or so, with preference given to the bigger boats with stronger lines and gear. Makes for an interesting time when a storm pops up on you!

Oh and in the pic you posted there were a few stern anchors with a short rode you could barely see.

Love it! I need to get better with my video editing... I'm just not patient enough to mess with it...

Nice. I was looking for my 338 - its up there in belmont bay w/ its new owners. I sold my p2v+ I only had a few months until my Inspire 1 came in. Hoping to get it out over the boats this weekend. Did you do a compass calibration on the boat or calibrate before you went out? It was a little breezy last weekend looks like it did good.

We do this a lot where its protected/calm. Basically get one raft up then another row tie's up transom to transom. Usually drop your anchor, reverse back and throw a line to the opposite raft up already set up behind you. Sometimes you need to run out the anchors with a dinghy to get set right. The others in the picture are just random double anchor so they won't swing or smaller boats that if they do swing on one anchor won't make contact with anything in their radius

mkivbren, I'll keep an eye out for your V338. Didn't see it last weekend but I also showed up sorta late in the evening. Quite a beautiful boat that I'm sure I won't miss. I did the compass calibration on my buddy's boat. It was indeed a bit breezy but not too bad. It also died down considerably when I took the P2V+ out. The quad handled well.

I'm sure that Inspire 1 is something to fly! Depending on how much use I get out of this P2V+ I might upgrade to the latest Phantom for next season.
