Broke my heart to see this after a minor thunderstorm on a Connecticut beach. The owners moored this off the beach in 4 feet of water at high tide, then the tide went out. They left the motor down, left a life jacket and fishing pole in it for 2 days. We found it this way and notified the owner who said it's OK it was an old motor anyway. Lately I've encountered less experienced people on the water. I've seen my share of kayakers and jet ski riders without life jackets, and 18 foot runabouts with 12 passengers. Hope this trend changes and I feel sorry for the next motor these people own.

Looks like an old johnson motor. Those are priced higher than gold. He definitly doesn't know what he's doing.

Yes it was a 80s era Johnson, 9.5 hp I believe. Owner said he brought it to the marina to have it checked out. He moored his boat in 6 feet of water without the motor. That's when I noticed the cylinder shaped anchor which should have zero holding power on the rocks in the shallows. Windy today, might be beached again.
