How is everyone storing their boat over the winter? Those of you who have some space... have you tried any of the products that are offered by companies like ShelterLogic? Check out http://www.shelterlogic.com

I store my boat out in a 5 acre paisture when not in the slip... or at least that's the plan. It's shrink wrapped up this ryyear, but going forward, I am thinking of getting a portable "garage" rather than having a custom cover made...

Anyone use these? Specifically, I'm thinking of this one... it seems to have enough height to allow my H240 with tower to fit... and width to get around and a couple feet in length...

Thoughts?

What part of the country do you live in? How are the wintertime winds in the location where you would put that up? I'd be concerned about movement more than anything, as most people I've come across that use the temporary shelter method's main complaint is the "walking around" in high winds when the anchoring system fails. Not saying it would with this product, but it certainly is one of the weaker components of the system.

I agree, I'd be concerned about wind. That's a lot of money for something that, at least around here, I wouldn't expect to last very long.

We considered getting one but decided to shrink wrap it this year and probably poly and tarp it next year. The winter wind at our summer house is from the water so the boat is blocked from the wind and snow by the house.

I have had this unit for 2 years now - I live in CT and we have gone through some wicked weather over the past summer with some hefty wind gusts (30-60mph), no issues at all. I actually paid $600 for the 12x20x11, included both doors and vents.

A local "chain" store was offering a ShelterLogic cover for approx. $299.00 (10x20x6' door height), but it was not high enough for my boat. I emailed ShelterLogic for a quote on one that my boat would fit into, but have not heard back from them at this point. Looks to be a good product but until now, have not heard an opinion from anyone that has used one. Still thinking of buying one.

We stored our previous (smaller) boat under a portable shelter full time for about four years. The key was anchoring the frame to our concrete pad to address wind loading issues. Without a concrete pad to anchor to I would have concerns about wind loading. The "canvas" held up pretty well. We have since moved and our current boat won't fit under it but at the time it worked out well.

I know someone that has used on the past 3 years and it's collapsed every year due to snow. He finally built an extra garage this year and his boat is dry.

He's in a wooded area and does not receive high winds, but like others mentioned, anchoring properly would be wise.

If you're not in an area of snow, that's one less concern.

Hi y'all,

Just want to let everyone know that I'm new here, thought I would add my 2 cents and stop lurking and join the forum/conversation. About the shelter, last week here in Sacramento, CA we had 60 MPH + winds and I ended up losing my 6mo old portable Shelter Logic boat shelter. I had anchored down with cinder blocks that had bungee cords wrapped around it. The wind snapped the bungee cords.... I'm sure about not buying another one.... I'll just use a nice blue tarp that wraps around the boat.

Welcome Rich! Sorry about your shelter! That's too bad. Hope your boat wasn't damaged by the departing structure.
