Just wanted to introduce myself since I imagine I will be spending a lot of time here.

Currently I'm 24 years old and haven't been around the boating scene for awhile. When I was in Highschool and college I would use the boat on my parents lake but the neighbor always did all the maitnenance and towing for us.

This season I decided I wanted to get back in the game and go get the boat from Michigan. The boat is a 1987 Horizon 170 with a Merc 165. From what I remember, the boat did very well. It could run all day on a tank of gas. It hasn't been used in a few years so I know that I have some work ahead of me to get it back going again but I know that I will be using this site to get questions answered as they come along.

I figured this would be a good starter boat to get me back into the game and then eventually down the road get into something newer.

Already threw up my first post in the trailer section and also put up a few pictures of my tow rig in the tow rig thread.

I am fairly proficient in wiring so I am going to upgrade the stereo and maybe some other stuff. I like lights, ALOT (I wire lights and equipment in emergency vehicles)...so that might be in the future.

Time to get back to browsing the site.

Welcome to the board! I think you've got a great boat to start out with, and you're very fortunate to be able to do so, so early in life.

What part of the country are you in? Are you involved with emergency radio equipment by any chance?

Weclome and be patient, a lot of people must have winterized their computers along with their boats as the traffice has been a bit slow lately, but it should be ramping up soon.

I'm located in Midwest Illinois. Not too involved with radio equipment. I've installed it before and that was the extent of it. The radio guy brought me the equipment and said install all of the this. So I mounted the radio, ran power to it, installed the antenna he said worked with the radio and that was about it.

I'm not to keen on what size antennas do what for certain radios.

Woggy--Thanks for the welcome. I am sure it'll start picking up now that it's start to get towards spring.

Welcome! Good to have young blood.

When I was your age, We had a 1989 Baja sport 240. Not very practical with kids. Cuddy cabin, 454 big block carb, seating for 5.

When I was your age, I.....well-I'm actually pretty close to your age (just over 30). Good to have someone else who is close to "our age" on here.
