I just remembered that, when I winterized my boat this year and covered it, I left nothing but air between the cockpit floor and the canvas covers on my 220H. I had considered filling this area with antifreeze, but didn't do it because I was storing it indoors (not climate-controlled, though) and didn't think it would be necessary.

Think it will be OK?

I had heard it gets very cold in the US during Winter time, I'm sure all that air makes a real mess when it becomes liquid. I also heard it's possible to fill boats with hydrogen every winter, as it doesn't become liquid until it's much colder. Come spring, the boats tend not to be in the same place they were left in the Autumn though.

No, Hydrogen, Helium makes you have a squeaky voice when you de- winterize! Hydrogen is also less dense, so it relieves the stress on the boat where it's resting on the trailer.

That reminds me. I also forgot to change the air in my tires. You can't be too careful in the midwest about Tire-mites, especially in wooded areas.

So much water so little time!

Well, as nice as it was today, I opened up my boat. Luckily, most of the air had apperantly melted, and drained out of the boat. Just to be sure for the next freeze, I drained my muffler fluid as well. A thought about filling the air-gap between the deck and cover.... I may put the plug in and fill mine with gasoline. It doesn't freeze like water does, and I could just drain it into the gas tank as needed, instead of just letting it drain in the driveway like I would Anti-freeze. I'll just put an extra layer of electrical tape on all my wiring connections so there is no fire hazard.

Instead of gasoline (not a bad idea), consider filling it with lightweight machine oil. It's what AMARC (http://www.amarcexperience.com/AMARCDescription.asp) uses to fill the fuel tanks of mothballed military aircraft, and it seems to work well for them. In the spring, you'll find that all the moving parts in your boat work better than ever.
