Well, I passed the CG exam last night for the OUPV, and today I enrolled in the upgrade class for the Masters License!

If anyone is thinking of doing this, I would highly recommend the MAriners School program! It was a lot of fun, I learned a lot, and passing the exam was a piece of cake as long as you stayed with the program. It is amazing how much material they get you thru in such a relatively short amount of time! The link is attached:

Thanks Cap'n! Actually I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 weekends of classes! Met a real nice bunch of boaters, and we had a Great instructor who really helped put all the textbook stuff in perspective! All in All we had 21 in the class to start. One guy dropped out after the 1st weekend, which was actually the toughest to get thru. That left 20 who took the exam, and only 2 failed. The good news for them is they get 1 year to go back and try again 2 more times if needed, and they only need to take the part they failed. There were 4 parts to the exam and we had 4 hours to complete it. They were Navigation Multiple Choices; Plotting, where we got a chart of the LI Sound and had to do 10 plotting questions covering 3 Bearing Fix, ETA, SMG and CMG (Speed made good, and course made good) and good old dead reckoning; Rules of the Road; and Deck General! Both guys only failed the Rules of the road. That covers all the Navi Rules and you get 30 questions, and are only allowed 3 wrong. They will easily pass the next go around, since both of them only got 4 wrong!
