We only get that when we get hit with a severe storm. Coastal region, Long Island NY, we get regular tides, each 6 hrs the water depth changes by 6-7 ft. On occasion we get a Nor'Easter that pushes water from the ocean into Long Island Sound, that can raise levels even more but are rare events. When superstorm Sandy hit, the storm surge was 10' above normal, most low lying areas on the South Shore of LI were flooded, since most are less than 10' above sea level. We are about 300' from the water but elevated approx. 80 feet. So we never get a flood on our street but the road leading into our neighborhood can flood when we get big storms.

Here the river is up to 15 feet it is normal business in the spring. But as the spring melt happens it is up to 30 feet up. Once the crap floats by you just go out. Then the inlet where the landing is fills with mud. So as long as it is up at least 5 foot your good but normal pool it is solid mud the dock is sitting in.

That is the time to hit lakes a few weeks before the dredge comes in and cleans it out. After that it is clear the rest of summer. Being a river ratt has its obstacles.

Like the barge that hit the yacht club. They still rebuilding that mess.

Ahh totally different here. Pretty predictable actually as long as we don't get powerful Nor'easters. The main issue is we have to deal with salt water which is an issue with everything whether you have inboard/outboards or outboards. If you saw what outdrives look like after 10 years here you'd be repulsed! Mine looks bad but works like new.

Oh I seen some they are whacked looking quick the outdrives. Salt water destroys stuff. Take our cars and trucks for example.

Misterful02 does the Volvo steering actuator have a grease fitting on it like the OMC Cobra one does? It’s not easy to get at I can tell u that! I’m going to try to find marine grease for my mini grease gun to make it easier to get back there.

I don't think it does. I just oil the shaft and turn the wheel back and forth. Also checked at the helm but didn't see anything there, either.

Gotta do the shift cable in the spring since I broke that getting the stupid drive off. Hopefully it isn't too much of a PITA to do.

this is what I have, so yes they are similar but slightly different. I give the grease fitting #8 a few pumps and put some OMC triple guard grease on the rod for the hydraulic piston #21. Steering works fine, very low effort just like the old school Chrysler power steering you could steer with one finger.

I pulled the cover off it yesterday and made sure rodents didn’t take up residence. Looked good. Had some water in the ski locker from a roof leak, but wiped up easily.

Also reinforced my redneck sterndrive stand. I can now move it around without it falling apart.

LOL fall apart. Mine is the flopper style. I been considering adding some bracing to my outdrive stand to.

I broke down and was tinkering with mine. Sound deadening. Mine has open gunwhales and just flaps of material under the rear seats. Well I rode in my buddies boat and he had alot less engine noise. So I looked into it and why.

I did the chevelles interior and had extra seat foam 3 inch thick. I covered it with carpet for inside the gunwhales. Blocked those straight shots to the engine. And made to snugly fitting cushions for under the rear seats.

It should be alot quieter now.

I think he re-did the whole thing, great job!
When I see those clean outdrives (you will never ever see that here; unless its a trailer boat) I know no matter how much I love Chevy small blocks, my next boat has to be outboard, preferably Evinrude. You guys have no idea what we have to deal with here if you want an I/O. The nail in the coffin for me was cat converter exhaust at 4500-6000 a side to replace and yes you will have to sooner or later in the salt pond.

Get one of these on your next boat:

If I lived down by you (which might happen if I keep getting job offers) I would probably trade my boat for something with an outboard. I'd probably still trailer though so maybe I could get by with my current setup if I lived near a ramp and had a place to store the boat inside and work on it.

Upstate, the water combined with the short season means any boat will last decades with routine maintenance. The main thing up here is keeping the weather out (using a proper mooring cover, not a snap on cover that lets water sit in the bilge) and doing your maintenance.

Yep I resisted the expensive outboard option all these years due to being brought up on Chevy small blocks in the old days (1970s), and if I were in freshwater I’d still run the I/O as long as I could get one without cat converter exhaust. But here trailering is really not a good option due to the roads and traffic. And I’m at the age where doing all the work I/Os need is getting old.
Where about have you gotten job offers? NYC, Long Island or Westchester? I’ve lived in all 3...

Did the shift cable today. Kind of a PITA but not terrible.

Also found out that the bulkhead supports inside the hull are plywood. I guess that’s what happens when you pull the access ports and stick your head in there lol.
