Figured I'd start a new post for this one.....

Just got off the phone with Volvo Canada with good news..... Drive and pivot arm will be replaced!!!!!! :D

He did site that the anodes were not the correct ones, but the corrosion that he had seen on the drive should not have progressed like that in such a short period. The rep did not elaborate on what he thought the problem was, but none the less it will be replaced. That puts my faith back in Volvo Penta for sure. To top it off, when he asked when I would have the boat at the dealer and I mentioned around the middle of April, he asked if it was O.K. to have the drive there in about 10 days and leave it there till the boat was back! "Umm, yup......"

Whew, a happy ending to the story.

+1, great news! Nice way to start the season  . And which anodes will you be using? 8) 8)

That corrosion was extreme, but I can see it resulting from the wrong anodes if combined with the right water conditions, enough time spent in the water, maybe a bad connection on your wire, maybe too much time spent around a dock with a leaky power connection, etc. It's possible.

Once you've got a comfort level established you shouldn't need to watch your anodes like a hawk - just a quick check a couple of times per season ought to be enough. But until you reach that comfort level, watch them closely. (Like I have to tell you that! 8)

Two for two my friend. Thats great news!!!! Sure took them long enough to get it done!!!

They are pretty tight lipped about the real problem is.....Im afraid we are not alone! I pressume you had zincs and not magnesium or aluminum. I have magnesium now..... :D

Chris again Im really stoked for you.

Glad to hear Volvo stood behind their product. I'm sure they have red tape to go through when having a claim like this, which is what probably tool so long.

Congrats!!!

AWESOME news!!! I'm very happy for you. Hopefully they get it all replaced/repaired/set up correctly so that you never have to worry about it again. Indeed, a sweet way to start the season!!!

Thanks for the continued support guys!

Yeah, it is quite a relief to know that the problem will be taken care of correctly. I think you are right Dave, it seems like Volvo has had a teething problem here with this latest generation drive, and the details are being guarded. All that counts is that they are making things right.

The anodes that were on it were Aluminium..... I know for certain that if I don't get to see the new anodes go on, I will be taking them off to check that they are the right ones.

You guys can correct me if Im wrong but Aluminum is the correct anode for fresh and salt water, why would they say you had the "wrong" anodes unless thats a diversion from the real issue.

The owners manual states that the aluminium are for brackish water, but Magnesium is recommended for fresh. I would not take that as the aluminium anode being able to protect effectively in either fresh or salt water, but a true brackish water condition such as keeping your boat docked in an estuary. So, I would agree with them when they say that is the wrong anode for a fresh water lake.
