Here's a few shots from our Cruise on Casco Bay (Maine), last weekend:


Portland harbor, Friday:






Had a small meal at the Inn on Peak Island, Friday night, then biked around the island:




Then back into Portland harbor to DiMillo's Marina, for the night, The pics are Saturday morning before heading out:

Heading up Harraseeket River, in South Freeport, to Brewer's Marine for Saturday night. After docking, biked into Freeport (home of L.L.Bean) for some very awesome pizza:




Saturday night got very interesting ..... we got 20 to 30 knot winds with gusts at 40+ .... coming in on our fully exposed port bow (they had us on the gas dock). Spent the night adding & adjusting lines and fenders ..... and getting an ammusment park ride. Sunday morning was dead-calm and warm:




Went out in the bay to explore more islands on Sunday. As we got past the islands and into more open water, had 4' to 7' rollers and waves. No problems for the boat.

Spent Sunday night back at Brewers in South Freeport. Got the bikes out and headed into Freeport for a dinner and then a visit to L.L.Bean (had some items to exchange). Got back to the boat about midnight.

Monday morning was again, calm & warm. Hang out, then head back to the trailer, in South Portland. We want back on the outside (ocean side) of the islands. Nice rolling 6-footers, spaced a few seconds apart:

what can I say. WOW. looks like a great trip.
Its just starting to get warm here, the water is hot enough to swim in, i got sunburnt yesterday, but seeing those pics make me very envious.

Wow! What a magnificent Fall cruise! You make all us now "armchair" boaters wish we hadn't pulled the plug so early! It looks like you had a real nice weekend. Maybe you could sneak in one more?

Well, actually ......... The bilge heater is still running. Our oldest son will be here this coming Thursday, for the weekend (from the DC area). If it's not too cold, we'll likely put her in on Winni ..... or maybe back into Casco Bay and do some island biking.

All of the water systems are winterized, so, right now it's just a big cuddy cabin with no water or head.

Those pictures bring back memories. The wife and I spent our anniversary there last year. It was our second visit in 8 years and would like to go back again. Maine (and the rest of the upper northeast) is absolutely beautiful in the fall. For those that have never been you should try to visit at least once in the fall. Here are a few of the pics we took of the same area.

By the way, the big ship in your pic looks like the exact same ship from when we were there.

Beautiful shots, Derek. Portland is a big petrolium transfer harbor. Some of the tankers are too big to enter the inner harbor and they actually transer to huge tanker barges that then are moved to the transfer pumping docks.

Boating late in the season, like this, is a double edge sword. On the one side, it is beautiful, quiet, peaceful and there is reletively low traffic. On the other side, some of these issues can be a potential negative .... some docks are pulled in, many marinas are closed or closing, if you get into trouble you are more "on your own" than during the mid-summer. Additionally, the weather plays more of a role in your plans .... and of course, can change fairly quickly.
