I just received the notice to extend the Volvo Plan for the additional 5 years. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the plan (either positive or negative) that would help me make my decision. Thanks. |

I bought the extended warranty when I bought the boat. It seems to cover all internal parts in engines and drives including all labour as well as emergency towing (with a limit). I haven't had to use it yet and hope I won't need to but it seemed to me that it was a good idea just for peace of mind as we all know how expensive major repairs can be. Be sure to retain proof of all service performed as it will be required to submit any claims. Cheers, Pete |

I have it. I guess its just for piece of mind. I have had a motor let go before and came out of pocket to have it fixed. |

I would go to your local Four Winns / Volvo dealer and see if you can get the same extension through them. The dealers can get the same plan for a fraction of the cost that Volvo offers it retail. The dealer will make a profit but it should be alot less than directly from Volvo. |

The plan costs $1660. I like having the piece of mind, but I also like the $1660! My luck, if something happens, it won't be covered anyway. |

Dealers (at least the honest ones) sell that same plan for a few hundred dollars or less all the time, as part of a boat sale. You might consider talking to a dealer and offering them that. The worst that could happen is that they refuse. |

Make sure you have a pretty good idea (from reading the language yourself) of what would be covered before you buy it. I learned this lesson the hard way when I bought my first brand new car at age 18. I bought an extended warranty that the finance guy said would be bumper to bumper for 5 years/100K miles, taking effect after the 3/36K factory warranty expired. I didn't understand warranty language well enough at age 18 to intelligently read and understand it, and figured it was peace of mind if I bought it. After the factory warranty ran, a wheel bearing went bad and it wasn't covered. Turned out the extended warranty was drivetrain only. It was there in the document but, out of youthful ignorance, inexperience, and wanting to hurry through the paperwork to get my brand new car out on the road to try to pull some chicks, I missed it. So, I paid 25% of the cost of the extended warranty to repair something that wasn't covered. Stupid me. ![]() |

I purchased a warranty for each of my twin VP 5.0 GI/DP's and tried to use them for my trim senders (which were included under the warranty). Unfortunately, the only authorized marina on the lake to do the work kept putting me on the back burner so I eventually just gave up trying to get them fixed (you really don't need the trim guages anyway). The problem I had was not with Volvo, but rather getting someone to do the work. Make sure you know who is going to do the work if you do have a problem because having control over them is important. |

I have the Volvo 2+4. I have used it twice and have been happy with the results. |

Peace of mind is great for the extended plans. as some have mentioned - there is definitely some "wiggle room" on the price -- so do your homework. I don't think you have to buy from a fw dealer or direct from VP. Any boat dealer who deals with VP stuff can probably do it. I just sent in the cancellation of mine -- I guess it's under-written out to "First Protection" or something. I have heard both good and bad feedback on how they work with both customers and the dealers. In the case of protection if your motor blows up.. that's the best peace of mind you can get. If you are worried about little stuff -- probably not worth it. |

I have the 2+4 and almost used it on a faulty trim sending unit. The dealer would have needed the boat for a week, plus the $25 deductible, and gas to get the boat there and back. I wound up ordering the part online and changing it out myself in a few minutes, for about the same cost. It's nice peace of mind, if something major were to occur. |
