@Evilz So..... How was your trip? How was the water temperature?

I'm going up again 10/13/11 with the intention of getting the boat wet one more time and scheduling maintenance but I may wait another month for the oil change to make an excuse to get her wet again. Last season we were able to eek a thanksgiving trip out.

The trip was great! I don't think I have ever been there with the water as warm as it was.....Daytime temps right at about 100 deg. We had some rain one night, but other than that, flat calm. Visited the Hoover Dam without issue, or ticket.

I'll try to post some pics this eve.

I tried to get up to Black Canyon last week but the weather was so unpredictable. Did you launch out of Willow or Cottonwood? I always launch from Katherine; however, we are ready to try something different.

How does it take to motor up to the dam from Willow or Cottonwood?

We launch out of Cottonwood and usually camp 5 miles or so upstream from there. It's probably 1:30 up to the dam from there - that's a complete guess since we are always messing around cruising into canyons and swimming, etc...
From Willow, probably 20-30 mins.

That's a long haul from Katherine's.....

When are you going up?

We were planning to go to Mohave next weekend, but I'm on call for work and that wouldn't work out to well....

Greetings, SoCal Boating friends...!

New to this thread and always looking for ideas on places to boat, friends to meet up with, and lessons to learn without personal unfortunate experiences...in other words, great to share things with others before I stumble badly into them on my very own.

We're in Temecula and have been boating in Perris most recently, although Elsinore has been a destination now and again. I desperately miss San Vicente locally, and we are crazy about boating in the Sacramento Delta area. Also have been to Mead and Powell...and a handful of San Diego Bay days.

Any suggestions would be welcome. With the drought taking its toll, I find myself looking more and more seriously at Oceanside and Mission Bay, and simply not worrying about the crowds in the depleted reservoirs.

Looking forward to chatting more with you all.

Bob

Hey Bob - Oceanside is OK, but choose a day that is nice in the ocean as the harbor is small. You also have to pay for parking there (only place I know of in San Diego).

Mission Bay is nice, but lots of 5mph areas, so do your research first so as to not end up with a speeding ticket. We like Mariner's Cove to hop out at the beach and anchor (72 hour anchorage, FYI). It's nice and protected.

SD Bay has the most to see and we like launching out of National City for a bay cruise and puts you deeper in the bay than Shelter Island ramp and is a better ramp in general....

Looking forward to San Vicente opening back up also! Should be interesting with the raised dam and twice the capacity!

See you on the water!

Erik
